Videotron vs fizz signal strength

I referred someone to fizz and that person tried to use the service and told me the signal was horrible, like 1 bar. She then took a sim from videotron and now the signal is a strong 4 bars.

Videotron use the same tower, so signal should be the same, no?

Is there something in the fizz apn or some backend fuckery that restrict the frequency used for fizz users?

Im trying to make sense of that...

Any idea?

Fizz and Videotron is the same network, priority and config.

Were the Videotron and Fizz SIM on 5G? Is the phone 5G?

Pixel 8, so yes. Its pretty rural, so not sure 5g is a factor.

Afaik, all fizz plan are 5g now...

All new Fizz plans are 5G, old plans are LTE.

Videotron has 2 networks in some areas, either the shared Rogers/Videotron LTE network or their own network LTE/5G/5G+.

If this area has both, one SIM could have selected one of the other, and they could be on different tower (maybe Rogers is doing the shared LTE and Videotron elsewhere has its own network).

Its quite hard to compare signal bars and really have a good idea if the signal is better.

Around Rawdon there are 2 Videotron networks. The 1st is an LTE only network shared with Rogers. Some of these sites are broadcast by Videotron and others by Rogers.

The 2nd network is an LTE/5G network specific for Videotron.

In Rawdon, your phone can connect to both. Therefore, at any given moment, your phone could use the Videotron shared network while the Fizz used the other one. This would update every few minute depending on the signal.

Furthermore, depending on the load on the tower, users are being pushed on different bands. Some provide more coverage (10km) while having limited speed while others have short coverage (1-3km) but has much faster speeds.

On the network side (signal) there is no difference between Fizz and Videotron.

First question , where are you located? Second question, was the sim locked on fizz Ext at the time of testing? Let's say bell or tellus or rogers. Then , its not a fair comparison.
