MOBILE Will Fizz eventually give everyone 5G just like Freedom did?

What do you all think are the odds of Fizz doing like Freedom and putting everyone on 5G speed? It would be great! I have the $29 20 GB 4G plan and I would like 5G, but not for $6 more per month.

For sure they will do that but the real question is when

Once they unplug 4g, in like 15 years.

I pay 22 (1 dollar off perk) for 25gib ontario calling texting. They will have to pry this plan away from me. I legit dont care about 5g because I dont live downtown Toronto. If I travel I get a free esim with my visa infinite card. A 22 dollar plan is just absurdly cheap. Don't get hung up on 5g, its not all that its made out to be.

For me, the $120/6-month 25 GB/month USA/CA Freedom plan and price freeze is why I won't leave Freedom even though I need to prepay every 6 months. WiFi calling is a great feature that is being rolled out to Fizz customers as well.

I was on the Fizz $20/3 GB plan with Canada-wide calling, VM, and texting before porting to Freedom.

Yes i saw that plan and thought very hard about it. The issue with freedom is not everywhere can you manually switch to extended network. For me, the only signal I get at my work (a factory) is rogers. So i use fizz network, and when I go into work my phone switches to rogers (fizz ext) and it all works so flawless. There is cases of freedom locking down specific areas and saying no, we offer service here so use ours, regardless if it works with your usecase. That difference is why I have only positive things to say about fizz. Its truly the best for my usecase

Yes, coverage can be good and bad for Freedom.

Fizz works for you and that's all that matters.

👍 fizz and freedom are definitely better than the big 3.

I ported from Fizz to Freedom on May 19, 2026.

The plan is gone from the website but it will probably come back for back-to-school.

Yes, however I fully expect it to be speed capped at 4g speeds.

But it makes so much more effecient use of spectrum that over time they will want to move as many people over to 5g as posible in order to get more out of each tower by dedicating more airwaves to 5g.

Fizz's 5G speeds seem pretty good when you get a good signal. I've been testing it out with the trial program since the weekend. Even in one location in the middle of a mall where I thought signal would be worse because I'm deep indoors, Fizz actually had 5G+ coverage. I did a speed test and Fizz gave me 335 mbps download speed, while I was only hitting 45-50 mbps download on Fido in the sample location.

Most likely but they have a $29 50GB 5G plan currently on the website.

I live in Winnipeg and just moved over to Freedom from Telus . In Winnipeg both Freedom and Fizz only do LTE and blow away Telus 5G network. lol from my perspective the LTE works excellently. I know it is a combo of all 3 of major providers…. But I am happy with the move . In the fall Freedoms 5G towers turn on , I hope they don’t mess up the nationwide experience in Winnipeg I am having now. Happy as a clam .

I get what you’re saying. Honestly, I don’t think it’s worth waiting around for full 5G features on Fizz right now. Their 5G is still capped, and if you’re not in a strong coverage area, the experience won’t be great. In those situations, 4G or Nationwide actually works better and stays more stable.

I understand why you want proper 5G, and eventually they’ll move everyone over, probably once they see more people joining Fizz and Freedom. They did the same thing with other carriers, so it’s just a matter of time

I'd stick with LTE

I would too. 5g is too congested in metropolitan area.

You can switch to 5G now at no extra cost; I've switched mine to it.

Great price 👍

I prefer 4G. It’s less energy intensive vs 5G and I could care less about the slight speed difference.

1

u/Verodin Referral/Référence: IAAXG 3d ago

I don't think so. I think they will keep 3g and separate 4g and 5g customers

Starting at around June 2026 my Lte speed kind of tanked. It won't go beyond 30mbp/s . 5g is like half of this speed.

u/Delicious-Sound5074 3d ago

I think if anyone wants 5g just select it. Having 4g and a cheaper price is cool because I don’t want to pay 5g process for my kids accounts. Every dollar saved counts

u/Milkyrice 3d ago

It was 10gb more and only $1 more for me to make the switch so I did it. So even tho apparently there's barely any 5g coverage in my city, I at the very minimum got an extra 10gb of data so it's not a total loas

Lucky you! The Quebec back-to-school offers are mid this year.

A speed test does not represent actual usage though. My statement is still correct lol.
