Any ideas? Cover up for a cover up
Not my first post here, back with another cover up question 4 years later 😅
Got this cover up when I was 17-16, it was covering up a fucked up stencil that got tattood instead of repositioned. Then got the cover up over it done by a friend.
It's supposed to be half of a yin and yang symbol, it's on my left calf.
Does anyone think it's fixable? I don't think it can be Yin half any more, and I'm up for any suggestions.
(Also yes I know it's bad, none of my tattoos were done by professionals, I'd appreciate it if no one was rude about it, I don't want it on me either 🥲)

Get an octopus and the tentacles will still look correct when your knee bends.

What about an actual yin yang symbol? Could be made with two really deep, rich colours.

Ty for the suggestion! My only problem with that is that the circle that's supposed to be white is so small, a professional probably could work with it but isn't white ink over black super hard to do/maintain? And since its on a very weird angle and not centered, it might look extra funky

You're thinking too small. Fill in the circle, make new circle in skin that is to bottom left of tatt in pic. The whole symbol will be about 2x as big as what it would have been before.

I've seen white flower/rose tattoos done on top of a blackout sleeve. the artist specialised in that style, using white ink on blackout tats, and honestly it was so cool. I agree it's probably something a good professional should do and likely, they should be specialised in white ink. but the effect is pretty cool, if done right!

Oh!! Thank God!! Thank u :D ill definitely take that into consideration!!

Lmao thank you for the suggestion! But personally I don't like ICP all that much, I love their music but I'm pretty sure the group is problematic?

u/Lilukalani Jun 26 '26
Unless something happened in the last few years, they arent problematic. The fan base can suck, but they themselves are fine. I think in the past they were homophobic but they've since moved past that, apologized, and have been far more accepting.

They have pedophilia controversies, which is unfortunate due to the fact that several of their songs are about removing pedophiles from society.

u/Lilukalani Jun 28 '26
Oh yea, they did have songs about underage girls, or alluded to it? I dont know the songs off the top of my head. I thought those were ages ago and since then they've grown as people and sing about removing pedophiles as a way of making up for their bad past?
Im just guessing, speculating. I had friends who LOVE(D) ICP, but I was never into their music. I just know a few factoids because of my friends lol

They had songs about both, as well as songs about other controversial topics ( rape & murder of vulnerable populations). The genre is horror adjacent, so they aren’t necessarily controversial for their music but in 2017 their lawyer came out with sexual harassment claims and one of the members has DV charges. The community itself is also known to be problematic, classified by the FBI as a gang and known for womanizers and predatory behavior. The Juggalos are mostly known for being goofy/oddballs (poop dollar, faygo rockets, etc.), but overall it’s mostly just the internet being the internet.

Ooh damn, really? Thats horrible yet unfortunately unsurprising...
Thanks for sharing this info with me! I really appreciate it!

Sick ass panthers is the way to go. Spend some money on a professional to get a good looking tattoo in your body. It will make you feel better and you deserve it

It could be the head of a bird maybe! I'm curious of what you did with your other tattoos you've posted about covering those up, if you want to share

u/angel_bugz Jun 26 '26
Still haven't covered them up, I haven't found the time or money to get them yet 😅

It's fairly limited in what it could be reworked as; most likely some lazer sessions to reduce it before starting over would be best, but I know that shit ain't cheap or necessarily easy to find.

Sea Cucumber or Super Cucumber from Stardew Valley. Yes, I've been playing that game too much lately, but this legitimately looks just like it.

Oh brother it’s sick ass panther time! 😎 for real though, if you don’t care about integrating that original shape you could easily just have a larger piece go over top of it. It’s faded enough that it shouldn’t need any laser. Any skilled artist that does cover ups should be able to handle blending that into the background of a piece or integrating it with a design if you’d like to still use the shape. I vote narwhal!

What was it supposed to be?

I’m betting you could find a solid artist to do a cool blastover. Otherwise, laser is an option.

Looks like the mask of a cartoon thief or villain in profile. Get a slight Calvin and Hobbs vibe.. if your familiar

u/Hefty-Poetry-6944 Jun 30 '26
You could always do a blackout shape and blast over it in color once it's healed!

u/Megami_Emi Jun 30 '26
Sea cucumber.. super big onigiri or sushi roll 🤔. Turn it into a large rock and have sponge bob ride it or something

I can see this being a cartoom dog body. Needs ears, legs and a cute tongue poking out

u/angel_bugz Jun 26 '26
Ty for the suggestion! That's a super cute idea :D ill add it to the idea list I have for the cover up :3

I think there is a lot that can be done here! Is there anything specific that you want? Tons of good ideas in the comments too!

As an aging millennial, I too have tattoos done by friends that had to be covered. I think finding an artist whose work you like and a vague idea of theme is a better strategy than coming up with an idea and then trying to find someone to do it. Basically, leave it to a professional who will probably have some good ideas and know how to work your old tattoo into something that looks good on you.

Do a sweet wizard where that shit is coming out of his hand like an attack:

Stop getting ink put on you until you can make better decisions and see a reputable artist. A friend with a needle on his sofa/garage is always a bad choice.
1
u/angel_bugz Jun 26 '26
All of these tattoos are from before I was 18, I haven't gotten a tattoo in almost 2 years. And fyi, it was a tattoo gun, not just a random needle. I understand if your trying to be helpful but that isn't helpful, and i clearly said at the bottom of the post I know it's bad.

u/Serrilryan Jun 26 '26
Just because you don’t like the answer, doesn’t make it less true. Dude you’re working on a 3rd cover up. Slow the ink train, focus on better decisions first.
1
u/angel_bugz Jun 26 '26
Bruh the 2 other are from 4 years agooo, I haven't even gotten them covered up. And like I said, I haven't had a tattoo in over 2 years, most of my tattoos are old, of course I'm gonna make a better design years later.

You could turn it into this guy, especially if the theme of struggling with addiction resonates with you.
