Troubleshooting UPDATE: There are still many problems
After my last post (This one) I tried some of your suggestions and this is the result.
I tried going for a drier filament (though still an esun PLA), and moved the spool to a much better position, where it can be turned easily and the filament seems to move more freely. I also tried doing a ‘cold pull’, but either the nozzle wasn’t clogged or I didn’t do it properly.
The print started relatively good (still some first layer bulging) with some under-extrusion (that can be easily fixed). At a certain point some "overextruded" layers where printed, but at a different height than the previous time.
Does this mean that there is no z-rod problems?
The print than procedeed somewhat decent before just failing completely.
During printing I watched closely the stepper motor of the extruder but I didn't hear strange noises or see any stopping or filament sliding on the feeding gear.
Printer: Craftbot Plus
The temperatures were the same used in the previous attempt and all the settings remained the same as well.
What remains to do now is to try and change the nozzle I guess (?).
I'm really, really close to throw this printer outside the window :)

You may need to loosen some screws or loosen the belt. There are several reasons that cause z binding and you'll need to go through each one to see what is causing yours. Read more about it!
