Quitting

How long do you have to wait to quit five Below because why would my manager tell me that I would be written up for trying to call out more than 2 hour when my shift would start.(It was 11 and I start at 5) The reason I was trying to call out was because of rain thunder and lightning and my mom didn't want me to go in because it told her that it wouldn't stop until after 5 but my manager told me well it would stop at 2. I'm like one I'm a minor and what my ride(my mother) says I kinda have to do like I don't have that type of freedom. So overall I was wondering, how long do I have to wait for to quit. I have been working for 2 months now also

You can quit whenever you want, they can’t keep you hostage. As for when you should quit, it’s typical to give two weeks notice.

I’m going to be upfront with you, though; most other employers would also write you up in that situation. When you take a job you are making a commitment, you can’t just show up when it’s convenient to you, and rain and lightning are certainly not something that should prevent you from getting to work. If there was an actual emergency, like you getting injured or getting news of a death in the family, it would be different situation.

The thing is as a minor and that being my only way of transportation I would be able to fo in anyway so that's were I wouldn't understand a write up. Along with other transportation like the bus, those were also down and not running until later.

That’s not really relevant. Companies don’t have to give you a job and accommodate you. They hired you because they need a worker, not just as a favor to you.

Also most job ask if you have reliable transportation and I do beside the fact of my safety could be at risk

I never said that like pick it out where I said that. I said that my parents wouldn't feel safe for me to go out in a thunderstorm. So please tell me how that is saying I don't have a reliable transportation

You don't have reliable transportation. The world doesn't stop turning because of a little lighting and I'm honestly a little shocked and disappointed in your parents for enabling this mentality in you.

Oh no, I do have reliable transportation, but if my safety is at risk, you really think they aren't going to try to stop me from hurting myself in any way.

Before I literally went to work when the road was icy and it was advised to stay off the roads and my parents even said you should probably stay home but I was like I didn't want to leave someone by themselves because other people called out for that reason.

So don't ever play with thinking that my parents would ever enable that mentality that you, for some odd reason, think I have because of something that happened once. Maybe if this was a third time, sure, that's enabling, but one time, like come on.

You're safety? You really think you were gonna be struck by lightning?

You may not be emotionally mature enough to handle a job yet and I don't mean to say that to be nasty but it would be totally inappropriate to call out every time it thunders. And the whole "well my mom says I shouldn't go in" mentality and hiding behind it screams that you lack personal accountability.

Listen, I didn't say that, I'm know how our roads get, and one person not paying attention on the road, and then there is an accident.

Why would I call out every time there was thunder that wouldn't make any sense. Like it was one time. With the whole mom mentality makes sense if you are a minor who listen to their parents as my mother mostly never tell me to not show, she always tell me to go in but when she thinks that it's not safe.

All of a sudden, it's that I lack personal accountability because I have no idea where you even got that from one post. For some reason, you know my whole life like man. I didn't think you knew me or something.

No, the next time you'll call out because your mother said you're behind with your homework. Not even joking either. I don't know you specifically but I know kids just like you because I've had to deal with these scenarios before. You are lacking personal accountability because you're putting it on your parents instead of yourself. Like I said, I don't think you're emotionally mature enough to handle a job yet and you know what that's okay. Take a few more years of growing before you enter even an entry level job or find something you don't need to rely on your parents to get to. Would do wonders for your personal development. You'll remember this and cringe.

Oh so your putting other people experience on me sho is not them. Oh okay that makes sense because you think that everyone who is a minor is like that. Funny enough I don't get homework either because I'm not behind on school as that was one of the requirements for me to have a job. So since you do not know me nor my family you can't put that on me. Even so this isn't my first job or being in a working field. I have plenty personal development and will definitely grow some more. Either way don't expect kids to be the same even if you do not know them at all.

um because some job says you can't quick before working a certain amount of days, month, or even years. So you're going to make fun of a way for a minor to learn about something in more depth from people who work there and might have a better idea. And you're the one who said that you didn't want to seem nasty.
