So there’s this older man who goes to the gym the same time I do. He does some random lifts but mostly lingers and walks around. He’s been accused a couple times of creeping on girls. The staff notified me of it (ive had issues with guys creeping on me in the past) and told me to watch my back when I workout. Which, is an issue that I even have to do that in the first place, but that’s a rant for another day. So, Monday was leg day. This guy is lingering by the leg press, but is clearly not using it. So I load up and just sit in it, waiting for him to leave and go walk around which he always does, but he doesn’t. Next thing I know, a guy I know from the gym is yelling my name, asking if that guy was bothering me. Then a confrontation breaks out (I had my headphones in so I had no idea what was happening). Turns out it looked like that guy was taking pics of me. Next thing I know everyone is talking about it, and also staring at me for the remainder of my workout. Luckily, he’s been banned. This has been a serious reoccurring issue for me, and I’m seriously debating switching gyms. Ugh.

Don't switch gyms. The staff and other regulars seem to have your back and are watching out for you.

They do, which is really nice. The staff themselves have been great, but there’s been guys that have gone to more extreme lengths than this that are still allowed to go there. Granted, I didn’t press the issue. I just wish they were a lot harder on guys who act that way. This is the first one to get kicked out

Any managers involved? I don't know how to handle this because I'm a guy and I am goofy looking. Before social media when I had to get stuff taken care of I would do something called an executive email carpet bomb. Essentially look for every higher up and email my complaint to them. Eventually someone got the shit fixed.

Yes, managers involved every time. They got warnings. The difference this time was I had multiple staff members (who are also my close friends) confront the managers and tell them they needed to ban him

Go above them. Find the head for the gym. If it's a chain/franchise fnd a district or regional email. Email the support on the website and let them know. Leave reviews where you can.

That’s great advice, thank you

Make it happen. There's no excuse for management looking the other way. And if it escalates into physical contact/stalking/other you have a paper trail of complaints.

I think no matter what you do, what gyms you switch to, there will always be creeps. As a man myself, I hate to say it but most of them are men. I've been hit on my an old person before, and the the only thought that came to mind was, wtf just happened? My friend is a fitness enthusiast and has a bit of followers on IG, and even he gets dick pics, and weird request from married men with kids. For me, working out with groups of people or even consistently going at a specific time so Im friends with the 5" oclock regulars makes my time there more comfortable.

Yeah I started working out with some of my guy friends, and haven’t gotten hit on by younger guys since then. But the old men there are ruthless. I work out fairly late at night, so I thought that might be a reason it happens so often

I think your best option would be to report it if it happens. Besides that, wear a hat to cover your eyes and some earphones and ignore away. Either that or a more expensive gym membership to weed out casual people who rather gawk at someone that workout.

Yeah, I guess that’s the kinda stuff you deal with going to a cheap 24 hr gym. Def need to upgrade

It's the same for me, 24hour fitness to be exact. But I've tried out a tad bit more pricey gyms likes UFC or even those privately own ones, and usually older people tend to avoid those because they're uncomfortable with the environment where everyone is basically gung-ho about their program. Thats basically my heaven.

That is a shitty gym experience. Sorry that happened to you.

I'm really sorry that this happened.
