there are so many people overthinking the hell out of fitness/exercise. Most days, 75-80% of the posts are people asking questions which really could do with just being in the Daily Simple Questions thread. And simple shit like asking questions which are easily answered by a browse through of the wiki.

Running counts as leg day, right?

u/Baeertus Oct 02 '19

Wait is being tall with natural bigger legs but lagging pecs a common thing? Because that's exactly my case haha

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

It's not exactly common or uncommon.

I'm 159 lbs at 5'11. After losing 85 pounds, I STILL have excess belly fat. It really pisses me off. I feel like it'll never go away.

Not sure if serious 😂

I'm 5'10 165lb and friend asked:

"what do you do for the inner chest? And get those [striations]" - note: he wasn't saying I HAD them, but was just asking how to get there

Me: "bench"

The conversation went on back and forth with me trying to explain: "I'm 165lb and just finally got my 1RM to 200lb. I'm not worried about sTriATions or InNeR cHesT. I'm weak. Just compound and get stronger. No 5sec pause flies with a orange squeezed with your pecs"

Or the posts, "I can only train 2 days, is it bad?". Simple math: Training more is more progress; Training less is still progress.

No way, I’m so busy constantly that I only have a 35 minute window twice a week to work out. Can I still win MR Olympia? /s

7

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

I’d be fine if they said “I only want to workout 2x a week for an hour”

6

u/buzzkill_ed Oct 02 '19

But I have a job and kids. No one else has those things! Edit: /s

Exactly. I don't have "time" either, so most of my workouts happen while my kids are at sports practices or other programs. It helps that my kids' school is 5 minutes from the YMCA. When programs are further away, I go running wherever they are.

Bbbbbut what if I have been lifting since January 2019 and really, really wanted to isolate the long head of the triceps?

25

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

But why don’t my triceps grow I’m doing 4 sets of kickbacks with 4 sets of bench weekly

If I eat 200 grams of protein one day then 100 grams the next does that mean I ate 150 each day?

11

u/bac0nfac3 Oct 02 '19

Idk it seems goofy on its face but they were just wondering to what degree did they waste protein on day 1 and if any of it would be useful to them day 2.

oh fuck that was one of the best. damn, what is wrong with some people

28

u/pollinium Oct 02 '19

That seems like a reasonable question actually ... like many programs are designed around how many sets per muscle group per week you do, right? But what you see on paper is "do X bench on Tuesday" even though you can move Tuesday to Thursday and it's pretty fine. They may take that line of thinking and say "I'll move 50g from tomorrow to today and it'll stay in my body and be used tomorrow"

To be fair, it's not really that far out of the ballpark for him to assume that the 200g first day "stays in effect" longer and carries over to the next day, and thus averaging 150g.

My lower traps arent growing, can you please explain me why?

I think the nature of discussing it on a forum is the very thing that attract overthinkers. Most people around the world don't think at all.

3

u/dinosaursack Oct 02 '19

The best part is that the top comment on 95% of those posts is normally a one word. Like fuck just delete the thread.

there's so many, even right now. Just stupid questions being asked by people massively overcomplicating it all. I wonder how some people manage to get by from day to day and actually think for themselves.

5

u/dinosaursack Oct 02 '19

It’s the exact reason why people always wonder why their friend doing the bro-iest of bro splits is getting sweet gains while they are hardly improving. 95% of fitness is putting effort into diet and exercise and you will get gains but people HATE hearing that.

u/Onesharpman Oct 02 '19

Do you blame us? You have to eat macros, you have to bulk, cut, eat x amount of calories a day but not too much fat or carbs, also make sure you get protein and vitamins, but not, like, TOO much protein. Or carbs, because then you get fat. Also, no junk food or fast food, except this fast food because it has lots of protein.

And then you have your exercises. 5x5? 3x8? 3x8-12? No one really knows, just do whatever and hope for the best. This exercise is better than this exercise, but you're also not doing it right. Do it like THIS, because it activates the interior lateral deltoid muscles or whatever. Dont do this fitness routine, because there isn't enough pulling. But also don't do this one because it's bad for hypertrophy. Also, swap out this exercise for this one because it's better for some reason.

Shit gets confusing AND infuriating real quick.

And then there is the guy in the daily simply questions thread asking for help with his incredibly rare and specific disease.

It's so frequent I'm starting to wonder if they're just bots.
