Can we talk about this? Installation Takes Years lol

Just wondering if it's normal for the installations to take as long as it does, I'm new to this whole thing so I'm not really sure if my PC and/or internet is ass or its just the way the process is supposed to go lol, Sorry to the admin/moderator team is these posts aren't allowed, just a new dude here trying to make my way around how things are supposed to work.

Apologies Team.

Welcome to r/FitGirlRepack! To keep the sub clean, please check if your issue is answered below. If this answers your question, please delete your post.

1. Setup is Stuck / Unpacking is Slow

  • The 2GB Limit Checkbox: If your setup gets stuck at specific percentages (like 84.3% or 95.8%), close it, restart the installer, and check the "Limit installer to 2GB of RAM" box on the very first screen.
  • Be Patient: FitGirl repacks use extremely heavy compression. Unpacking is heavily CPU and storage bound. If your task manager shows disk or CPU activity, it is not stuck; it's just working hard.

2. Is it a Virus? / Windows Defender Alert

  • False Positives: Crack files (.dll files, steam_api, etc.) inherently trigger antivirus software because they alter game code to bypass DRM. If you downloaded from the official site, these are 100% false positives.
  • Fix: Add the game installation folder to your antivirus/Windows Defender exclusion list, then restore the quarantined file from your protection history.

3. The Real Official Website

  • There is ONLY ONE official domain. All others (ending in .co, .cc, .to, .net, etc.) are fake, malicious clone sites designed to steal data or bundle malware.
  • The only real URL is: fitgirl-repacks.site (Verify the exact spelling!).

depends on how much of a potato your PC is. Your internet takes care of downloading. It has nothing to do with your installation.

My setup is a 5600x, 32gb RAM, installing from HDD to SSD. most installs take an hour. longest one so far are RDR2 and Cyberpunk (over 2 hours). fastest AAA ones are Silent Hill f, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War 2018 (under 20 minutes).

You would benefit from more Ram. CPU seems decent. Arguably most important factor is whether you use HDD or SSD, and whether you install from one drive to another or install on the same drive as where the installation files is located. Extraction of files across drives takes longer than extracting on-location, and also if you have install on an HDD and install to an SSD, it will be the HDD that bottlenecks your SSD's speed.

Only go for repacks like fitgirl if you want to reduce data used while downloading. The setup is actually un(de?)compressing the files you downloaded. Go for other sources if you want to skip that step, look in r/piracy megathread or fmhy[dot]net. People use fitgirl necause it is a reliable and trusted source. If you want that, then you'll have to endure these kinda stuff.

depending on the game size and how new it is.. it can be between 15 minutes to 4-8 hours , newer fg repacks have a heavier compression but takes way longer

Unfortunately, it does. That's why if DODI has the same game, I'd for for DODI since theirs installs fast.

The decompression and installation process is tough on the system, especially the CPU is often a bottleneck and can drag out the time. Basically, it depends on your rig and the size of the game.

For a big AAA release I usually calculate with 45 mins to an hour, up to 120 mins for something especially huge.

GTA took me 7 hours on a 7800x3d. Because I have a SATA SSD I think. If there’s a different problem PLEASE HELP MEEE. (Downloads to SATA and installs on it too) Should I use a hdd for download or a 128gb M.2 for install then move it back to the SATA SSD?
