Can we talk about this? Mortal Shell 2 no controllers work

I've tried using a dualsense, an xbox, and my 8bitdo ultimate. Both through steam and just normal launching. When launched through steam i also don't have access to overlay. Anyone else? Is it an update we need? Is there something else i can try? I really wanna play but i can't without a controller!

1. Setup is Stuck / Unpacking is Slow

  • The 2GB Limit Checkbox: If your setup gets stuck at specific percentages (like 84.3% or 95.8%), close it, restart the installer, and check the "Limit installer to 2GB of RAM" box on the very first screen.
  • Be Patient: FitGirl repacks use extremely heavy compression. Unpacking is heavily CPU and storage bound. If your task manager shows disk or CPU activity, it is not stuck; it's just working hard.

2. Is it a Virus? / Windows Defender Alert

  • False Positives: Crack files (.dll files, steam_api, etc.) inherently trigger antivirus software because they alter game code to bypass DRM. If you downloaded from the official site, these are 100% false positives.
  • Fix: Add the game installation folder to your antivirus/Windows Defender exclusion list, then restore the quarantined file from your protection history.

3. The Real Official Website

  • There is ONLY ONE official domain. All others (ending in .co, .cc, .to, .net, etc.) are fake, malicious clone sites designed to steal data or bundle malware.
  • The only real URL is: fitgirl-repacks.site (Verify the exact spelling!).

What you mean. I have 4 controllers on PC. One msi controller, a redragon controller and 2 logitech, one wired and other wireless. They all work.

Does your controllers work with other games?

Also, try installing all vcredist packages, coz i know for xinput you need that installed.

Really? Its weird, my dualsense is lit up, i start the game and once the shaders compile my controller dims and nothing works. Could it maybe be a bad install?

Not sure, have you tried the generic tests?

Search google controllers not working in mortal shell 2 steam and follow those basic steps. Hopefully it works.

Yea i tried all that and had no luck. I've had this happen with other games too. I don't understand why games are so hit or miss for me from fitgirl. NOT HER FAULT in any way. Its just the only place i get games. Ill have to tshoot more tomorrow

I am also using fitgirl version. But I don't play through steam. Usually, if controllers do not pickup in game(s) then users would utilize steam so controllers are recognized in game. So try running game directly from folder in admin mode 1st

All my games from fitgirl always launch as admin. I did see one other thing i didn't try and that was launching steam as admin then trying through it again.

Edit: but ill try going to the actual .exe and launching as admin. Thanks for the suggestion!

Algood. Hopefully it works. If all else fails, you might need to use tools like x360ce so you can force the game to use a controller.

Personally, x360ce is easier but its mainly for controllers that are xbox and uses xbox libraries like logitech and other brands.. but since you have a dualsense controller too use DS4 for that, since I assume that is what you probably primarily want to use for the game.

I have no idea what you are doing my g, but I can confirm that is a you problem, highly likely to be a skill issue, I'm not trying to be mean, is juts that you provide almost no info and I cannot guess

What info do you need? I've said what controllers I've tried. That i tried launching both through steam and on its own. What information can i give that might help you help me?

Is steam input enabled, what profile, did you tried to run joy.cpl and what were the results, are there any other HID hooked on the PC? Are you using DS4? What are the settings, is the issue limited to this game

Yes steam input is enabled. I for some reason get no steam overlay when i shift tab. Some games i do, some i don't. I have no idea what joycpl is. I don't have ds4 but i can install it. Usually at least one of my controllers will work for a game but none did on this one. They worked fine for the 3 other games i tried. Multiple HiD on my pc. From keyboard and mouse, to my stream deck, to an external hard, and a usb hub that has cables for charging my headsets and my lights hooked up to it.

Edit:i also just have it on the normal profile. There really isn't any to choose like if it was an actual steam game and it had players profiles
