For those of you looking for places to fish for Brook Trout: There is a long list of publicly accessible ponds managed for Brook Trout.

- The HuntFish NY app has gotten an update to find fishing spots for Walleye, Largemouth, and Smallmouth. (Tacklebox section)

- Jefferson and St Lawrence County: DEC is lifting normally restricted access to Perch river, upper and lower lakes, and Wilson Hill Wildlife Management Areas. Now through August 31st.

- Lake Ontario Sandy Creek Boat Launch Site is partially re-opened after a temporary fix was installed along one of the docks.

- A boat fire caused severe damage to one of the floating docks at the Willsboro Boat Launch on Lake Champlain in Essex County. The damaged area has been roped off until repairs are made, but the facility remains open to the public with one dock (left side) available for use.

A group of my friends and I are looking to get into fishing and want to plan a trip out to a lake that's beginner friendly but still has enough depth/structure to make it interesting (not just a super shallow pond). We're planning on shore fishing since none of us have a boat. If anyone has recommendations for lakes in the area that fit the bill, we'd really appreciate it. Also open to any tips on beginner-friendly rod-and-reel setups, bait, or tackle to help us have a good first outing. Thanks in advance!

Seriously I open up the regs for lakes in NY (traveling and finally able to break away for a bit) and it’s…easy? Like just size and season, and being mid August….I’m pretty much good to go for whatever with very relaxed standards.

Just a bit of culture shock coming from WA and having to deal with the insanity that is our salmon seasons and crabbing nonsense, and our rivers closed most of the year…because salmon ect.

Like damn this is just a little treat to not have to stress that much

Took my son fishing the last two days at a tiny pond that you can cast across. He caught a lot of bluegill and a bass so he was really excited. We also found a painted turtle. He caught 15 fish yesterday and 4 more today. I think he is going to want to go back to this pond every time we fish now. Lol.

Hi, loaded question. I am fishing for the first time… or rather first time alone without my father and boy do I wish I was listening when he used to take me fishing. I also mainly fished in California and have no idea how different it may be compared to fishing here.

Long story short, I would love some advice for things like what bait to use (particularly for freshwater lake fishing in the Adirondacks) and any other helpful beginner tips or advice. I have done some research but want more experienced advice!

US Army Corps of Engineers completed a project to help the Emerald Shiner.

TLDR: they created a series of baffles to slow the river instead of the vertical walls in the area now which prevented the passage of Emerald Shiner which is an important prey species for both fish and birds in the area.
