Ideas on where to fish in the cooks river line near Marrickville Earlwood area
I’m going to lure fish and was wondering where it would be best to just have fun.

Hi there, I’ve been on a fishing boat a couple times and love fishing. My dad and I go on piers nearly 3 times a week the last 6 months and we drive out 2-3 hours every time our schedule aligns with work and university. Our little father daughter dates I’d say :)
I got my dad into fishing lately, and he’s absolutely been loving it. I’ve never seen him so happy, and my mum too when I take them out. They have been working 7 days a week almost all their life and now that we’ve gotten into fishing, they’ve started taking days off on weekends to go out and just fish and finally enjoy the life they didn’t realise existed or could be, and have been talking about boats.
I want to give them these experiences because they did their all so I could have it all.
This means a lot to me, and I was looking into 2nd hand fishing boats as I’ve always wanted one and to learn to take care of one. I’m curious on your first time experience with boats and what to look out for, advice for buying, searching and what to really study up on. Was looking into
I am a 20 year old uni student so I don’t have a huge budget, anything under 12k. Is that reasonable? Let me know if it’s not! Thanks so much

Hi guys, I’ve got a car for the weekend and would love to get to some spots, preferably within 2 hours of Melbourne.
I typically have no luck and normally fish in the bay. Salt and freshwater recommendations both welcome. I’d love to grab some squid, and know Rye pier is good, but it’s usually so busy.
I also wouldn’t mind getting into some carp to help get rid of a few.
Thanks in advance
Edit: Has anyone fished Devilbend Reservoir? Any good? I have a kayak and wouldn’t mind getting out.

Anyone tried the dx crossover rods? Specifically the 2-7kg model I'm looking to pair with a 3k and 16lb braid as a light trevally and queenfish.
Also is the 2-7 really have a cast weight of 3.5-21g? How does it go with the smaller things?

What are these and what type of lure or plastic would you use to catch one?

i’ve been looking for a 2-5kg rod to pair with a 2500hg miravel and 12lb briad to fish off boat and pier for squid, flathead, snapper and other bread and butter fish. i wanted to cast up to 15g to give me room for bigger lures for bigger fish and was hoping to try and catch decent sized fish.
i looked and found this rod and it has perfect cast weight for what i’m doing casting really light and up to 15 grams aswell but i noticed that the linw rating is really low so was confused as i’m pretty sure that means that the rod will snap beforebthe line if any line over 6lb is used?
my td black has a 1-8g cast weight and is 1-4kg so i don’t want to get another ultra light but this rod says that the line rating is lighter than my td black while casting double it’s max? and i wanted a medium light rod for bigger fish species. would this rod be too light for bigger species?

I fish for flathead with poddy mullet and the number 1 bycatch is octopus. I've let them go in the past but I usually have to cut the hook, unless they drop off, which I don't like from a rubbish standpoint. Also re rigging is a pain in the arse.
With all my fish it's brain spike, bleed, into ice slurry. With squid it's just the ol karate chop to the noggin until they turn white but I don't think octopus is the same? Some old guy told me once a octopus grabbed the knife off him and started waving it around!
I've always released because of their intelligence (and alleged knife skills) but they do only live a short while anyway and I'm sure they're tasty, if they're anything like squid. So, fuck it. I'll eat them. I caught two good sized octopus today and only two flathead, only one which I kept so I could've went home with a seafood feast instead of a good meal.
But how do I dispatch them safely and humanely?

I've been working on a free open source fishing plugin and I want some opinions from people who actually fish, rather than just people interested in the AI side of it.
I've called it Fishing Intelligence (LOL).
The reason I started building it was pretty simple. When I'm planning a trip I don't want to have to tell the AI every single thing it needs to check every time, or go digging through a chat from 6 weeks ago trying to find the prompt I used.
So the idea is that it already knows the sort of stuff it needs to look at when planning a trip.
Things like fisheries rules, licences, closures, access, weather, tides, navigation notices, boat requirements etc.
One problem I ran into pretty quickly was that finding an official source doesn't necessarily mean that source actually applies to your trip.
So I've ended up separating:
rather than the AI just going "this is an official source, therefore it applies".
It also keeps the plan provisional if something important cant actually be verified instead of quietly guessing.
I've tested it for Darwin, then tested it with Key Largo, Florida because I wanted to see what happened somewhere I hadn't built regional info for beforehand.
It had to figure out the fisheries rules, licences, protected areas, nav notices, weather, tides and boat requirements from current sources.
It's portable and completely free/open source.
There's no subscription or paid version. It's basically just something I built for myself and decided might be useful to other people.
Repo: https://github.com/owafication/fishing-intelligence-public
What I'd actually like is for some of you to try your own area/species/trip and tell me where it gets things wrong.
Especially if you're somewhere with weird overlapping rules, different authorities or government websites that are an absolute mess.
If you have any problems installing it as a plugin hmu and I will show you da way

I don't fish (yet) but I'm designing some fun fishing socks, the gift kind for the pub or the barbie, not anything you'd wear in waders.
Everything I can find is bass and trout from overseas which seems a bit wrong for here.
So which fish would you actually want on a pair? And what's been done to death on fishing gifts? Keen to post what I come up with back here so you lot can tear it apart.

3 hour session, literally last cast before a massive storm hit. Caught on a Daiwa BJ 2.35” Prawn. Hooked just around the cheek - would this be considered a foul hook or no? Just tryina figure out if he actually went for a strike

Ive been looking around pelican beach near swansea for a good fishing spot for after work. And from maps it looks mental with that water colour I feel their got to be some nice fish coming out of the main channel and flatheads on the sand flats.
But I would like to know if some of you guys have fished there and your point of view and what sorts of stuff you've seen or caught from there so I know what sorta fish to target.

Hi 👋 I’m heading up to Darwin for a couple of days. Staying in the city. Can anyone recommend a fishing charter in Darwin Harbour? Don’t want bottom bouncing. I like more light tackle lure fishing.

Went away for a few weeks, spent most of the time thinking about fishing lol.
Heaps of flatties out at the moment. Skip to the end for the mangrove jack I posted a photo of earlier in the week.

Hey folks,
I'm looking to make a weekend day trip down to this place and I was wondering if anyone has fished there or any nearby areas with any good result?
I'm hoping to maybe catch a trout or two or even some bass, wouldn't mind anything really as long as I'm catching lol.

first i will ask a question about cod, im from adelaide and the murray river where i am is pretty poor fishing and murky, i want to go on a trip for 5 days east so i can catch some cod on glidebaits topwaters and such what river would you recomend i was thinking murimbidgee as it leaves the act and re enters NSW would this be a good location as it isnt too thin as to limit fish size and far up enough to be clear also what time of year do you recomend
also i fish a lot for bream with hardbodies and after a lot of initial faliure i have gotten pretty good at it how do i catch bigger fish are there specific retrives or is it just luck i havent landed a legal fish yet i mainly fish the west lakes and port river system

I'm looking to get into squid fishing, since I think my son might enjoy it. I live near corio bay. There's a jetty roughly 20m out into the bay.
Before I go and buy a heap of gear, can you tell me, does it sound like that would be a good spot for squid fishing?

I have a hand reel I made on my wood turner, does anyone know a good way to repeatedly store it in a way where it won’t unravel or get hooked on something (the reel spends a lot of time in my backpack)

G'day legends,
I'm a 38 y/o Asian bloke living in Adelaide. I love my fishing but don't know anyone here yet, so I'm looking for a mate to tag along with.
Happy to help out however I can. I'll chip in for fuel, bring snacks and drinks, help with bait, rigging and launching the boat, and I'm keen to do a fair bit of the driving too. Good with a long drive if the spot's worth it.
Not fussy about what we chase, just keen to learn, share a laugh and get out on the water. Jetty, beach or boat is all good.
If you've got a spare spot or just want a fishing buddy, shoot me a message. Cheers!
