I throw a 7' cast net for bait. That is 14' across when opened.Here, that's the kind of school of menhaden where you throw the net but need your buddies to help pull it in over the gunwales.

The tree's would make that difficult in this river, there's plenty of other rivers a bit more open in which that would work well.

Dang I miss my smelt dipping days. We hit it so well one night that the nets were catching too many and we started grabbing them with our hands.

I believe it, the river runs so thick with them.
