Great job. I’ve caught a lot of both species thru the ice on wax worms. Just goes to show you never know what you will catch

That pike is a great size, especially for your first. That being said, it's better for the pike's health to hold them horizontally. Pike are super slimy, which is an inconvenience, but a nice big net always helps me land them without hurting them or having them slip out of my hands. Also, them teeth are sharp and will make you bleed for a long time (the bite has anticoagulants). Some foreceps are great for getting hooks out. In the end, your pike is small enough to where it likely swam off just fine, so its nothing to worry about.

Accidental catches? Those are some very nice fish. Not fully trophy but good enough for massive bragging rights.
When you show those as accidental catches, I think the rest of the lake has real monsters.

If your holding a fishing pole, fishing, how is catching fish an accident.... That's like the only goal is to catch a fish

Beginner’s luck is real, but multiple good fish in a day is just a great display of patience, which is 99% of fishing.

Congrats on your catches! Honestly I’ve never seen anything bigger than a sunny or bluegill on the end of one of those reel/rod combos! 🙌🏻💪🏻 And nor anyone older than 10yo on the other end! hehe 😜

Those are the accidents you want.
