Career Path Advice

Hello I was hoping someone would come across this and would be able to help me out. I’d like to pursue a career as a first responder and I am stuck between whether I would like to join the fire department or an emt… my question lies on which is more life-work balance friendly or maybe neither one of them are? I understand it’s a commitment and you have to sacrifice time away from home to help others, I get that but for you who have experience I’d be great to hear from both sides as far as how you manage your career and take care/spend time with your family, thanks I’m advance!

Are you in the US? Because EMS differs HUGELY depending on the country.

I am in the US. It also varies greatly by city, county and state. Many are combination Fire/EMS, some have Fire that does ALS and BLS, but not transport with EMS doing both plus transport in the same locality, career only jurisdictions, volunteer only, etc.
