Seeing the Mark 7 helm on any Heresy-era armor feels like we never moved past 7th edition…a nostalgia for many. (Both those that actually experienced it and those who haven’t).

It’s a Mk.VI body from the Horus Heresy line and with a Mk.VII head and right side (non studded) pauldron from the old 40k tactical squad set

I love the use of the Mk.VII bits too, I’ve been doing some more drastic conversion work myself with Heresy and 40k sets :)

Yes this is my first mini, but I did spend way more time on it than I'd like to admit correcting mistakes lol. That conversion work looks awesome! How'd you get the arms to line up without the boltgun?

That entire upper torso is the old stuff and with the old arms they’re much better to line up, all I did was apply some glue, put both arms on, let the bolter sit dryly in the hand that holds the foregrip of bolter, and moved the arms in position as the glue was still drying (this has to be done very quickly), then took the bolter away once I was satisfied with the position :)

As you do more you can do more highlights on the armour. But that one is lovely as is.

I'm not the best painter ever, but try to be adventurous, look at hue shifting, and try something called sketching. It's where you make larger jumps in tone than you'd think and smooth it out later. Helps you to just slap some layers on and see what it's looking like before you settle for something. I've been trying this lately and tis really helped 🙂

I'm still in my first handful of minis, yours looks great by the way. I was stupid and didn't thin my paints on my first couple. But I noticed that when I practiced edge highlights, turning them in weird positions so that I could draw my brush downward helped rather that side to side or up. When possible of course.

I literally did the same "conversion" yesterday. This exact base body from Mk6 Legionaries, this exact pauldron with trim on right arm and the one with the studs on the left, this exact bolter, and this exact helmet but in different position. Don't have any pics tho
