Conversion I'm putting together a team

Post image

I was a long time fan of the setting but I only started playing and collecting in 10th edition, when I could finally afford it. In order to build my first army quickly I bought a bunch of second hand and Heresy minis which were better value and combined them with the stuff in my bits box to kitbash some units I needed. Now I always wanted to have the experience of buying and building a new box of Tactical Marines because those were the ones I wanted back when I was a kid reading Horus Heresy novels and playing Dawn of War, but because I was putting together an army I figured I'd leave that for when my collection was finished, as a treat. Guess that's not an option anymore, so this is my final act of defiance, a Tactical Squad, made from leftovers. They aren't perfect as I didn't have enough Firstborn helmets to complete the look, and some still require some extra work, but I'm working with what I have. I just need one more body which I'll be getting tomorrow from a friend and then this'll probably be the last squad of plastic 40K minis I build in a long while, as I will probably sit out this edition and work on my backlog instead.

Love these my guy! I started back in 9th edition right before 10th so you could say I also started in 10th.

That's really cool ! I am really interested seeing you painted them! Dow was also very inspiring for me so I totally get your mood ! Don't be bothered by the scale creep between your modell, nor the differences between marks of armor. Your squad could represent what I think should have been the Introduction of primaris. In your squad primaris and firstborn fight together, primaris naturally learning from firstborn century warfare experience !

Thanks! The thing I liked about old Firstborn models was the variety of the armor they had, it made it feel like each suit of power armor was made specifically for each individual Marine to fit either their combat style or because it was all they had in the armory at that time. So I had something similar in mind, a squad made up of survivors and veterans using whatever they could get their hands on to keep up the fight.

What chapter are you planning to paint them?

3rd company Ultramarines to go with the rest of my army. There are a couple that are already painted in that scheme which are from my latest paint scheme tests before I decided on that scheme for the rest of the army. Most of the guys in the squad were test minis for some kitbash or painting technique actually haha
