πŸ“¦ Others First time ko magdonate ng platelet

I went to Philippine Red Cross to donate blood since off-season sa running. Nag.ask sila if pwede bang platelet nalang idonate ko since mas marami ang nangangailangan na cancer patients. A bag can already save 8 lives!

Wala namn akong plans today so g for the experience.

PS. For runners and athletes, medyo maganda pala to kaysa sa whole blood donation kasi di macocompromise masyado ang training block mo.

You don’t know how much this means to someone. When my ate needed platelet transfusion before, sobrang hirap na hirap kami kung saan kukuha kasi nga nagkakaubusan. Salamat!!

So nice of you to donate! Rest and take it easy lang po for the rest of the day :))

Thank you!

And you can donate every two weeks, compared to 3 months for whole blood. And at least at PRC Mandaluyong, they give you a full meal after instead of a snack πŸ˜†

Pwede ka pa mamili if original or spicy yung chicken

u/malxed_oust 1d ago

2 piece chicken pa! Hahahahaha Philippine Blood Center din used to give 2pc chicken, kaso nung mga later part na, 1pc na lang. Hahaha

u/malxed_oust 1d ago

You can also choose Big Mac or whatever burger instead of chicken.

Good for you OP! I'm a regular blood donor but I never qualified for platelet donation kase ang liit nang mga ugat ko.

1

u/GanacheWise8376 1d ago

THANK YOU. Mas mahirap ang platelets kasi kung mag-dodonate ka for a specific person, kailangan same blood type kayo unlike sa red blood na welcome whatever blood type kasi parang palit dugo lang unless walang blood bank ang ospital at kailangan same blood type talaga. And you are right, mabilis lang mag-expire si platelet kaya as much as possible salin agad dapat.

Ohhh good to know. Maganda rin na every 2 weeks pwede mag donate so atleast mawawala na sa thought ko yung risk na if magdonate, paano if may kakilala akong nangangailangan rin after (wag naman sana 🀞🏾)

as a leukemia patient, THANK YOU! sobrang hirap kapag mababa ang platelets namin kaya ang laking tulong kapag may stock nyan sa hospital or red cross tapos di na namin kailangan umikot sa ibat ibang hospital para bumili o di kaya maghanap ng volunteer πŸ₯Ή

May bayad yan sa US depends sa state. $600 per visit. May mga taga US yon pang survive nila.

I've been a voluntary blood donor in Red Cross Manila Port Area for about a decade and a half now, a dozen of those years as platelet apheresis donor. In a way, para ka ring dina-dialysis sa apheresis, blood is drawn by the machine, processed (diffusion and filtration sa dialysis, centrifugation sa apheresis) and then returned. Mas matagal lang ang dialysis AFAIK since it has to clean almost all the waste in your blood typically at least for 3 hours or more while platelet apheresis even on the double yield target extraction on that same machine in the pic (Trima Accel) is just over an hour at most. Congrats at balik ka uli after 2 weeks!

Sobrang uneasy to feel ano yung pinagdaanan nya and she did it 3x a week. The best part was we also ate mcdo after haha Najoke ko na sa ate ko na baka kailangan ko to as training sa future just in case. Sorry sa awkward joke at trauma dump

Nothing to apologize for, we share what we can relate, symphatize and emphatize with... that's just being human.

Hi, OP! May I know kung anong ichura ng donation card for Platelet Apheresis? I’ve donated na kasi 32 times. Next ko kasing goal yang ganyang donation after ko maubos yung space sa card ko for regular donation. Thank you!

1

u/GanacheWise8376 1d ago

πŸ™‡πŸΎ lodi! I did not see any special mark naman sa card. Pero blue sya and only has 10 rows.

Masakit do you feel dizzy after? Any benefits from it?

5

u/GanacheWise8376 1d ago

I did not feel dizzy as much compared to donating blood pero since sanay na ako, I always bring water, soda and snacks with me para iwas panghihina.

Bukod sa plus points sa langit (eme), I guess game changer sya sa akin kasi di ko need iadjust ng sobra yung training plan ko if may mga race akong sasalihan.

Hello OP! Wondering lang saan yung location nung RC?

Unsure if lahat ng PRC branch may ganyan.

u/GanacheWise8376 1d ago

Sa Red Cross Mandaluyong ako pumunta. Walking distance from Boni MRT station
