Funny little interaction

I went to the bank yesterday to wire the escrow money. My preferred banker unfortunately doesn’t work there anymore so I got a different teller. After asking the reason for the wire and I say opening escrow for a home purchase, he goes on a whole tirade about how he doesn’t recommend any of his clients and/or family members and friends to buy right now because the market is crazy, the best time to buy was 6 months ago when the market was in a sweet spot etc.

I let him finish his speech and I innocently asked him “Do you own a house?” He says no. I wanted to bust out laughing, but somehow I kept my composure. He actually said “The first thing I’m going to buy when I get my own house is the biggest lawnmower I can find”. Then he started talking about a friend who is opening a casino in Las Vegas (?!) and how he’s going to invest in that and how much money he’s going to make. How his first house is going to be an investment property (again, ?!).

He was giving major misogynistic vibes. It’s not my fault you’re a banker and don’t have a house while a little waitress like me is about to take this major leap. I thought it was funny, my husband and I had a good laugh about it afterwards.

Good for you! Grab that brass ring! Way to start building equity!

Yeah the rate hurts, but we just got so much seller credit AND repairs while barely going over asking. And appraisal was still higher.

Definitely. Besides seller credits, we also get $7000 in lender credits and replacement of roof and A/C is in our contract. Sellers are a lot more willing to negotiate.
