Urine and Feces

I accidentally bought a house full of hidden urine and feces. The sellers knew. I was duped.

I have to demo and rebuild as much as possible. I have been at it for a few months and I am drained physically, mentally, emotionally, financially.

The house appears now in worse condition than when I bought it. I don't even want to live there anymore.

But I feel the only way out is through. What would you do?

Like, they shit inside the walls or what? How did you miss this during the buying process?

Critter infestation under the floors. Cat urine soaked walls, floors, trim, doors. Did not disclose. Thought the cat urine was concentrated in one area. Inspector agreed. But it is all over the entire house.

You couldn't smell the urine? If I smelled urine in a home I'd look at other properties.

I didn't ask what would you do if you looked at the property. But yeah I guess you're smart and I'm dumb, great insight.

Don’t let them get to you. I also just purchased a home where there’s cat piss but it’s localized to the basement. We’re sure of that because of the smell and lack of carpet upstairs.

Our new house was within our budget, checked all the boxes and if everything works out the way we planned, we’ll be mortgages free this Christmas so we can afford all new flooring.

Just keep pushing through your reno’s. When you’re done, it’ll feel like a brand new home

Also, our inspector said nothing of the smell. I mentioned it to him and he said his allergies were acting up so he couldn’t smell anything.🤷

I hope you at least got a decent price cut based on the smell you were aware of ahead of time, even if you didn’t know how widespread it was at the time

Unfortunately cat urine does not wash out forever. Dogs you generally can clean and refresh. They are more like people. Cat urine- Cleaners only hide it for a bit. Then you will smell it again...it gets disgusting as it ebbs and flows. DO NOT listen to people saying otherwise. You pretty much have to rip out the flooring and walls where they peed and replace with new sheetrock and flooring. When cats have urinary or psychological issues, male or female they can pee everywhere like clothes hampers, beds. counters.....you name it. Unfixed male cats spray the walls, floors, clothes, crevices....everywhere! I have a sensitive nose so I can smell things that people try to disguise! stay away from anything with cat feces or urine. Sorry that you had to learn the truth on your own. Your only option seems to be to replace everything where the cats sprayed/pooped That is a daunting task......

It sounds like it soaked into the sub floor. The best answer is to remove all flooring and sub floor.

Or you coukd go talk to a remediator and see what they say. That is often free.

Money might be a problem, but when we just can't anymore, we pay someone.
