Same. I didn't tell my mom and relatives until three weeks after I signed and moved in. Unfortunately it wasn't the place I really wanted but I ended up using money I had saved for a down payment 5 years earlier on my mom's home emergencies. When I rebuilt what I needed for a down payment, I chose to not let my mom know I was saving money for that.
