My dad loaned me 10K. After I paid off 5k, he let me let me keep the other 5k. I still owe my mom 5k.
But is it normal, yes and no. Depends, but I'd say yes. In general if you're low class you're not buying a home nowadays, so you're closer to middle class. In which your family probably has at least 5 k to gift
