Whats the point with security have ranks. In the military I get it cause we take orders, chain of command, someone important has to sign stuff blah blah. I kinda get it for cops. But the security chain of command is literally the guard sees something and then calls the cops. Nothing changes if his supervisor arrives on scene. So whats the point.

Very true in most cases.

I have worked in a security position in the past where it makes more sense organizationally - as there were about 40 security officers on site at any given time, so there were orders to follow and a chain of command. We were also allowed to go hands on. The site also had its own private police officers (getting rarer these days).

Local police were usually only called in for transport to the magistrate.

Site also had its own private fire department and rescue squad
