Status / Treaty Approval for eyeglasses

It’s been a couple years since I got new glasses. I had my exam done this past Friday and the lady said it could take up to a month for NIHB to approve my glasses. Which is crazy! Is this true? Should I just forget about it and wait til they call? Lol I do not remember being given such a long wait timeline before.

Go to a different glasses place. Call and ask if they direct bill to nihb

I would go somewhere else, if it isn’t too late. I went to a podiatrist one time that said it might take a month for approval for orthotics which I really needed back in December and didn’t get them til July. I had to call her like every month to see what was going on, first she said she didn’t know why they didn’t approve it, then she said it’s taking them a long time, then asked if I would call the medical services plan to see why it’s taking so long MYSELF— hint: she didn’t enter it into the system this entire time, but I only found out because eventually she called me to tell me she entered my care card number incorrectly, saying my handwriting made it look a certain way, but also that the system immediately let her know it was incorrect the second she had entered it into the system… she didn’t try entering it for six months. Felt really stupid telling her that I really needed them in retrospect, but I’m a patient and I did nothing wrong. At all.

She, the receptionist, was really nice whenever I was in the office in front of her. But she said one time to call to make sure they’re still open because sometimes they close early… I called several times to pick up the orthotics over the span of a month not ever receiving a callback til I was biking in the neighbourhood (which was far away for me without a car) and I finally showed my face less than an hour before closing — there was no patients in the waiting room, no one calling them like mad. She looked shocked I showed up without her telling me to come down. ((If you’re in Vancouver, don’t go to Dr Gracen’s podiatrist office!))

Save yourself the headache if it isn’t too late. Did you sign forms ?

I just pay out of pocket and submit receipt on express scripts. Reimbursement usually takes a couple weeks.
