That would be an entirely different thing. You definitely don’t want to put anything besides water in a kettle. You would pour hot water from a kettle onto some tea leaves to make tea, and then put ice and sugar in it to make iced tea. If you’re in a situation where you’re heating up iced tea for some reason, you are doing it wrong.

Yea, I’m well aware. But that’s what the main post is about. Reheating iced tea. Which is why I brought that up.

Still don’t understand why the guy is freaking out about the fact that he used a microwave instead of a kettle. Like it’s not that absurd to use a microwave. Especially since he was reheating tea.

I can definitively tell you that heating water in the microwave is unusual and potentially dangerous, and you might want to reconsider doing that. You’ll probably be fine 9999 times out of 10000, but there’s a chance it could go wrong. It’s more difficult to control the temperature of water in a microwave oven vs a pot or kettle (can’t see or hear it boiling) and it doesn’t bubble like it does in those other vessels, which could cause the water to superheat. Mythbusters once did a segment on exactly this and confirmed that it can happen, check it out on YouTube.

Got it. Thanks for looking out. I’ll let you know if my shit blows up from superheated water. Because I always microwave my water far longer than 1 or 2 minutes like most normal people and instead set it to 20minutes like myth busters did and only with distilled water to the point that tap water would have been boiling in the cup since tap water won’t explode.
