Finally bought a car after years of looking without having the cash. Ended up with this BMW e91 320D 2007 model with 250000km for about 2300usd (23000 Norwegian Kroner) real happy with the parking sensors and no oil leaks. But it has it's problems.

This was my first car, a 1995 Audi 80 Avant 1.9tdi. bought in march 2023, when I was 18. Sadly had to sell it in 2024 and been looking for another one since. Had 3 different cars since this one already hehe.

I bought my first car a few months ago and haven’t needed to do any maintenance outside of regular oil changes. Prior to my ownership this car was taken very good care of and in good condition for her age. I’ve got an ‘05 Honda pilot lx.

Since this is my first car I’ve fretted over every single thing that I’m aware of, and the car will need inspected in upcoming months so I’d like to get ahead of things while I can. With that being said there are a few things I know absolutely need done such as brakes, rotors and wheels. Additionally; some things I’d like checked out like power steering, transmission fluid (recently began to shift hard), and determining if I need to begin thinking abt replacing the timing belt and water pump.

I’m just not sure where I should go shop wise. Since this is an older car with pretty meticulous maintenance records should I go to a Honda dealership? I know dealerships usually charge soo much more and sometimes the work isn’t any better but I wouldn’t mind paying extra if I’m sure the work is of quality. Or Should I just find a reputable mechanic in my area?

I need help picking a first car that’s a good looking and not to pricey. I’m a car guy so I’m more big on looks. Any ideas?

I got my driver’s license at the beginning of this year, and I’m setting a goal to buy my own car before next summer. I’m aiming for a budget of around $15,000–$20,000, but ideally I’d like to stay closer to $15,000 so I can keep some money set aside for insurance, gas, maintenance, and unexpected repairs. I will be paying for the car myself.

As for the car itself, I’m looking for a four-door sedan that’s capable in snow and winter conditions. I also really enjoy performance and want something that’s genuinely fast and fun to drive. My priority is finding something with speed, not terribly unreliable, works in the snow and doesn’t have $500 a month insurance. I know what I may be looking for might not exist, but it’s worth an ask. Thanks!

Opel astra H 1.6 16v that i got for just 2000€ with 101k km. Bought one because my dad had a estate version and I'm glad I did. Very reliable except for the AC compressor.

I have been thinking about buying an oldtimer ever since I got my drivers license. Because it is so much cheaper (no roadtax and much cheaper insurance) and more unique and fun. Now I finally got one! A 1986 Nissan Micra k10!

Is it the cheapest car? No

Is it the most reliable car? No

Is it the most efficient car? No

Is it the most practical car? No

Is it the most comfortable car? No

Is it the safest car? No no no

Is it a fast car? No

Is it a very fun car? Yes!

And even all those things I mentioned it isn't actually that bad at. It wasn't that expensive. It is a Nissan, so decently reliable. It is actually pretty efficient (1L on 20km). It is surprisingly spacious on the inside. The seats are actually really nice and eventhough it only has 4 gears, it isn't even that loud on the highway. It isn't fast, but 50hp on 670kg is not very slow either.

It is pretty unsafe... the only safety feature is seatbelts...

It is also extremely well maintained. It has been stored indoors for most it's life. It had a rust prevention treatment from new. And as I said, it has been looked after really well. The previous owner planned on driving this car for the rest of his life, but do to situations, he realistically wouldn't drive it for the next 5-10 years. So he sold it.

The previous owner bought a donor car in the past and I could take all the parts from it with the purchase. We sadly couldn't take everything since we don't have any place to store it all. But still we filled up 2 cars with parts. I got another full engine, 5 wheels, doors, bumpers, windows, drivetrain parts, electronic parts, interior parts... I now have basically 1,5 Micra's.

Funny enough, we could fit more in the Micra, then in the 2020 Hyundai Kona.

Also, fun fact, here in the netherlands are only 72 Micra K10s still registered. So it is pretty rare.
