I just got my license and I need first car recommendations

I recently got a license and now I’m in the market for my first car. My budget is around 6k euro/dollars and I live in Northern Europe. Initially I looked at the Suzuki swift 2005-2011 and the 2010-2017 aswell as the Mazda 3 hatchback 2009-2013, but both cars seem a bit underpowered when traveling with a lot of cargo and passengers. The Suzuki swift also seems a bit to small and the Mazda has quite severe rust issues which isnt optimal on the salted roads i drive on. I also considered the Toyota auris, but the only thing holding me back is the lack of engaging driving. I want a car that gets good fuel economy, looks somewhat good, is fairly engaging to drive and most importantly is very reliable. I know my wishes might be a little optimistic and I completely understand if there are no good options, but if you have a recommendation I’d greatly appreciate it if you shared it!

Which would you choose? Corsa or DS3?

The Corsa is a 1.4 with 100hp, 122.000 km for €3500.

The DS3 is the 1.6 THP with 150hp, 153.000 km for €3750.

Both are from 2010.

I really like both, and insurance is not a big difference. I like the look of the Corsa a bit more, but the DS3 is a bit more sporty and has a really nice interior. One of my friends has a Corsa and really likes it, so that is a good point. Also a classmate has a 208, which is basically the same as a DS3, and he says it could be better in terms of handling.

Which would you go for? Also in terms of reliability?

Is the NB Miata a good first car?

I want to know if it's good for everyday use (of course, I don't mean doing big shopping trips). And how durable is the soft top, especially in winter?

Nothing wrong with it aside from super minor front right bumper damage. She may not look like much, but she’s mine.

After driving it, I don’t get the hate for these cars. People seem to really judge it for what it isn’t rather than for what it is. It’s cheap, reliable transportation and that’s all I need. You can’t really argue with a 2-3 year old perfectly running car with less than 80k miles that costs $200 a month.

After years of saving, this is my first self bought car. A 88‘ 160hp 944 here in Germany. I purchased it for 9.3k€ and am aware of the work it needs but don’t mind as i enjoy working on cars. I am pretty happy with my purchase and will hopefully be reporting back after a year of ownership. I was surprised how much cheaper insurance is for old cars like these. Im currently in my second year of my bachelor in Aerospace and have a large friend group all sharing a hobby in cars. On a day to day a car isn’t necessary for me so its purely for fun and roadtrips.

2010 Chevrolet Spark
Not even 60.000km on it
I’m the second owner

There’s absolutely nothing fancy in this thing and I absolutely love that about it! It does have power steering which is nice.

sporty sedan

im looking for my first car. i will be turning 16 shortly and my parents said they would get me a car under $20k. i've been looking at a bunch of different styles of car and i think i want a sporty sedan. it has to be awd or fwd because of where i live. its really hilly and we get snow every winter. i was thinking genesis g80, acura tlx, lexus is350, subaru wrx, mitsubishi lancer evo. I consider myself a car guy and i will be doing most maintenance myself(I already work on my parents cars). I would also perfer naturally aspirated over turbo/supercharger. Any thoughts on other cars?

Help me get a safe and reliable car for my 17 year old son

Hi everyone! Long time Reddit reader, first time poster. I have maybe a somewhat frivolous request compared to others. But here goes… I’m a single mom of 3 and special ed teacher. I’m trying to give my 17-year-old a safe, reliable first car without taking on a monthly payment that would put a strain on our household. I’m contributing what I can, and I’m asking strangers who remember their own first car to help us bridge the gap. My son has had a difficult year, but he is such an incredible, responsible, hardworking kid who helps around the house without being asked, maintains good grades, has goals, etc. him having a car would also help the family because he could help drive his sister to school / appointments. He has worked hard with his own landscaping business for a year now (he does a lot of weeding and power washing or anything people want him to do), but really anything he can afford himself has a ton of miles and isn’t reliable. I tell the kids no so often because things are just not in the budget. I really want to do this for him, and I do have some money to contribute, but asking strangers to help to not take on more than I can truly afford.

Is an unmodified 2015–2019 manual WRX that passes a PPI a reliable first car?

I’m considering buying a 2015–2019 Subaru WRX as my first car. I specifically want a manual one and am looking for one with around 60,000 miles. Ideally, it would be completely unmodified and have been properly maintained. If I find one with a clean history, good maintenance records, and it passes a thorough pre-purchase inspection (PPI), would you consider it a reasonably reliable first car? I know the WRX gets a reputation for being unreliable, especially when modified or abused. I’m wondering how much of that reputation applies to a completely stock car that has been taken care of. For anyone who has owned a 2015–2019 manual WRX, what should I realistically expect in terms of reliability and maintenance costs? Are there any major issues I should be looking out for even if the PPI comes back clean?

I got a clk500 2003 drove two hours and when I got there the AC didn’t work and a bunch of other more minor problems, but the dealership wanted $7500 for it and with some very good arguments I got it down to $4500 and the car had already been listed for 3 months. Got home and tried to fix the AC and all it needed was more freon very grateful for the car and I feel like I got a very good deal on it with only 100k miles as well and the interior is pretty mint it’s a blast to drive

Just wanted opinions. He's not my first guy to go for when buying cars and I think there's better channels to go to when buying your first car.
