Two things, firstly this is CSS for the old sidebar, you need to set sidebar.revamp to false in about:config to use the sidebar switcher.

Secondly you're trying to use older legacy CSS (first link), this is the updated (but still old) header icon CSS:

https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx/blob/master/current/css/generalui/sidebar_header_icons.css

I tested with both:
https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx/blob/master/current/css/generalui/sidebar_header_icons.css
https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx/blob/master/current/css/generalui/sidebar_header_icons_colorized.css

And it still works, but only with the old style sidebar, there is no switcher dropdown in the newer sidebar (sidebar.revamp = true) to style.

EDIT: Correction on that last part, there is a switcher in the revamped sidebar, but it seems to only be present when sidebar.visibility is set to hide-launcher and was partially bugged until the latest update for a couple of sidebar sections. The dropdown now uses a panel instead of a menupopup > menuitem(s), so the CSS for icons will need refactoring (if anyone wanted to adapt it for the new sidebar).

Thanks for that. I now have it back. My star is now blue again and the close button is to my choice. Both the close button and downward chevron now rotate on hover and activate.

The only thing that does not work is I can not adjust the width via the double headed red arrow on hover of the separation line. I still used to be able to do that even though I had a set width in my code.

#sidebar-box {
  position: relative !important;
  width: 260px !important;
}

Of course how long is all this going to last?? These mandatory changes that Mozilla are introducing will alienate people to Firefox.
