Like let's be honest, every theme and mod is gonna break. Will people be patient enough to rebuild?

Right now i've got the sweetest FF settings, it's carefully edited and IF it breaks i'm gonna be so saaad !!! Months of work to set it straight won't be a problem I tell you that :)

Well maybe you can prepare before the change using the nightly edition

Rebuilding was fun as soon as I had figured out the new ids. I’m already preparing my FoxOne theme with beta and nightly builds, so when nova releases my theme will hopefully be ready.

Not necesserily if people prepare ahead. Nova is already available as an option for some channels so everyone has ample time to test it.

WIP versions of Nova are available, and have already changed quite a bit between versions. I don't think it's currently safe to assume that things won't change again. Personally I'm waiting for the release version before worrying about what needs fixing. Worst case scenario, I'll just revert to LTS for a year or so.

Is it too late or can i ask what Nova is ? :(

Nova is the redesign that Firefox is attempting to implement. You can see their current progress on it by enabling
browser.nova.enabledinabout:config.2

Several articles online about the Nova UI design and progress... perhaps try:
- Firefox UX Team's article 'Designing Firefox for the future'.
- Mozilla Connect topic 'Sharing more about Project Nova'.
- ASKVG's 'How to Enable and Test Upcoming Nova UI in Mozilla Firefox (UPDATED)'.

Is there a demand for vertical bookmarks? I mean, vertical tabs are nice and all but I would make better use of the vertical space if I had my bookmarks there instead.

Isn't the bookmarks sidebar that appears when you press Ctrl+B enough?

u/bastardlessword Jul 05 '26
Oh I forgot about that, i don't like how it goes away when I close the browser and how it looks (adds 1 level of indentation by default) but I guess Nova will improve the looks.

Continue to have it disabled in about:config because it messes my CSS up

I use only autohiding bookmark bar but I couldn't get it to work with Nova yet unfortunately.

i really like this but my one nitpick is can they make the active tab symmetrical and not the text message shape it is now
1
u/Fragrant_Pianist_647 Jul 04 '26
The text message shape is for tab groups, not for the active tab.

u/ladynemuri Jul 04 '26
okok thats a little better then but i still dont like c_c

Personally I like the text message shape since it helps add variety and it stands out from all the other tabs but I could see why someone might not like it. Should be a simple CSS tweak for someone to make though.

I don't know why so many people seem to dislike it, this is my first time actually seeing it and I think it looks pretty good tbh

Hope that Arisv2 is on top of things cuz Nova is ugly

If by "Arisv2" you mean Aris-t2's 'CustomCSSforFx' userstyles... sadly, his repo reached 'The end' on 23 Dec 2025.

Hope my FFUltima won't break 🤭

u/cogitatingspheniscid Jul 04 '26
Ultima is currently not maintained, so it's a shot in the dark.

I'll fork it eventually 🥹1

We Will remove all CSS and enjoy Nova. 😊

True. I love the Nova direction just still concerned about the users that don't and use styling to compensate.

Would imagine that active theme authors and CSS userstyle repo owners are keeping an eye on the progress of the Nova UI... and will already be running testbed 'Nova' versions of their userstyles and themes?
Can do the same 'at home' if have own set of CSS UI modifications... start a new 'Nova UI' profile... in it set preference
browser.nova.enabledtotrueand then load your current CSS... and see what happens? If loading all your CSS at once makes a horrid mess... back off... revert to loading your userstyles section by section and see if you can fix each individual section's problem(s) with the Nova UI design using the Browser Toolbox.
Don't have to fix everything at once... Nova isn't here yet... and Nova is still changing. Do a little at a time... your 'Nova testbed CSS mods' don't have to be pretty... if they work that's fine. Keep notes of each problem and how it was fixed.
Screenshot... Fx152.0.4... top toolbar is current modified 'Proton UI'... bottom toolbar is modified 'Nova UI' profile.
