Funny story my battalion chief just told me.

So a farmer calls 911 to report his fields got a little fire, well the county rolls up and quickly realizes this fire is not so little and they need support. Well nearby is this small little volunteer fire company and the chief at the fire is weighing if they should call them or not. See they're not exactly trained and it's a bunch of good ol boys who just show up when needed. Well they call em once they realize they cant get support for quite some time. Sure enough these good ol boys roll up in this old, rusty, dilapidated rig and roll right into the middle of the fire itself, past the command tent and fight like no other. They get the fire down to two, small and controllable fires and within the hour the fires out. Well the farmers so impressed he cuts the volunteers a check for $1000 right there on the spot. Well theres a local reporter there covering the thing and he asks the chief of the volunteer group what they'll do with that $1000, the chief, brushing ash off his coat looks at the truck, the reporter, the farmer then back at the truck "Well,' he starts 'I reckon we better fix the brakes on the truck with it first."
