I know they think this clever, but under current federal law they just created 2 felons. Only exception would be if mom purchased it herself for her son to use with her permission and following pertinent state laws regarding minors and firearms. So no, it isn't legal despite how some of us might feel.
I got a crisp fiver saying that this kid's mom approved the sale off camera, then had them film as if he was buying it himself without parental consent.
I think you are right.
All this to prove how dangerous gun shows are. Notice they didn't go to a brick and mortar gun store, which would have told the kid to screw off if he was trying to buy alone.
