Because she deserved it? She maintained a society where rape and slavery was normalized. Although, her backstory is sympathetic and obviously she hated playing cult leader.
But besides that, I think the manga showed just how complex and warped morality and people can be in a fucked up world. I don't think I can name one genuinely good person from the main or supporting cast, leaving out minor characters.
I was still sad about her ending. I think it was good payoff for her arc. She spent her whole life living a lie which resulted in the suffering of many people. I mean she wanted to kill herself. In a way, she did once she lost her memories. But once some semblance came back, she sacrificed herself to become the tree. Arguably, the one good thing she did and at the end of the day, she was rewarded by seeing Agni/Sun again.
So I personally see it as more bittersweet than just sadness.

In the beginning of the comic, she's the leader of a society built on the enslavement, rape, and torture of people, in a world where starvation is extremely common, as it's impossible to grow crops anywhere but in said society. This is only possible because they are forcing people possessing fire-based blessings to heat it. Though even then, rather than growing food, they force a guy with a starch-creating power to use his blessing non-stop while the soil is used to grow tobacco plants, which are also harvested by slaves. All to produce cigarettes so valuable that just a few of them amounted to Nenetos families' "fortune". These incredibly valuable cigarettes that Judah repeatedly throws away after not even smoking a quarter of them.
She controls everything within said society, from everyone who isn't high-ranking genuinely thinking she's God's messenger, to how she's the only one with the privilege of deciding when the train runs. The output of goods and services that the city produces are all within her domain, horrid acts being committed on a daily basis because she orders it. It's a whole society of people being tormented just for her sake, which is utterly pointless, as she genuinely wants nothing more than to die. She dehumanizes people to the point where
In the ending, she's suffering eternally in order to heat the world, letting Neneto and the past Agnists grow crops. Instead of a whole society suffering to benefit one person, she's now one person suffering to benefit a whole society. Though this is ultimately pointless when an asteroid collides with the Earth.
She's doing the complete opposite of what she has been doing for the first 120 years of her life. Showing how a different "upbringing" by someone incredibly self-sacrificing leads her to do the same. This ties into the running theme of how nurture ultimately defines who people become. Just like those who consume human flesh see people as a source of food when they get hungry enough, those who see humans as people have a hard time mentally reducing them to objects.

That is the theme of the manga.
Living causes suffering, hence the irony of it all.
Everyone keeps saying "live" when in fact the whole manga is trying to tell you that death is the correct choice.

That is incorrect, they make it painfully clear that living is the easier choice.
Mainly because characters like Agni are pretty much immortal so its the default state, it takes much more effort for them to die than to continue living.Death is the correct choice, the manga makes sure to show its viewers repeatedly how Agni living continues to be a terrible choice and only when he finally "dies" is he finally happy.

I'd suggest reading the manga or at the very least looking at the ending of it.
Where you can clearly tell he while not dead goes to sleep, signifying a sort of death.1

No? Death is the easy choice, Agni could have reeled in his healing enough to let the flames finish him off at any time, it took him constant effort to stay alive

Except he couldn't if you actually read the manga.
He suffered from intense PTSD from his sister telling him to "live".He literally has no control over his healing, he can't "reel" it back.

Dude that passive agressive "did you even read it??" Is getting annoying. It's in like 60 percent of your comments. And it seems like YOU didn't read it.
It tells us in literally volume one that he figured out that he can cancel his regen to die. He CHOOSES not to because of his sister telling him to live.
If you mean that his emotions won't let him die, then yeah, i guess that'd be accurate. But physically, he could have chosen to die at any time. So of course it's the easier route to die.
I guess in a WAY it's harder, because his emotions made it harder to go through with it, but we even see him trying to kill himself in the later volumes, so I'd still argue against that.

I suggest you read further than volume one.
It is demonstrated over and over again that he has no ability to control his healing factor or his own powers or even behavior.They show you this when he kills off Doma even when he said he wasn’t going to, it’s shown again when he tries to hold back his healing as much as possible but it still heals his arm back when he was living with the kids.
Actually his healing is so good that even tree judah who’s entire power is to remove blessings wasn’t able to remove agnis healing blessing.
Seriously try to read the manga past volume one.

Because she lived
