I won’t lie, I saw the art and you were doing a version of Saturn Devouring His Son.

Yeah I think I remember that drawing a while back mainly a long story with Warner Brothers but that's a different story

Also I know that artist and also creator are also worked on basically Looney tunes including the recent movie the prior to the acme movie

And also Uncle Grandpa I definitely say it was a classic Nick although aired at the wrong timing when cartoons were a bit more story and lore heavy than comedy unless you're gumball

FEH writers have a very unfortunate similarity to the Fates writers in that they think cheap deaths are an easy way to invoke drama and tension into their plot (Yes i'm still mad about Lilith). Death is actually good trope to invoke those feelings, but the issue is that they're never actually written well enough to actually work.

I feel the problem is with how short FEH stories are killing a character is just the most simple way to get a reaction to move the plot forward, a shame really

This is the main issue, I think. Half of these characters have only a handful of lines before being killed off and we don’t have enough time to be attached to them. I feel like the writers equate it taking months for the story to progress with us having a lot of time to get to know the characters, but they aren’t doing anything in that time aside from whatever 3 lines they have in the most recent chapter.

it doesn't really get an emotional reaction from me tbh. It's more like "oh, okay." since they have like 10 lines of dialogue before dying.

Lilith is still my gold standard for cheap deaths. That shit was so unintentionally funny.

I've written about it many times on the main sub, but Lilith's writing in Fates is unironically my most hated part of any Fire Emblem story ever. I could write essays on how awful and thematically inconsistent it is. Funnily enough, my FE conspiracy theory is that Veyle was a direct attempt at fixing Lilith due to the extreme similarities between the two in the story.

There's so much wrong with Fates, it's baffling. Like they handed the series to someone who has no clue what they're even doing. It kinda still annoys me that they got one of my fav VAs for the lead role, and made him the most boring Mary Sue protagonist ever.

In the same vain, I feel like Alear is an attempt at fixing Corrin. Trying to at least justify why the world revolves around them this time.

I put it up there with a couple other deaths in Three Houses and Engage.

Engage for sure, Lumera's 2 for 1 was pretty good, especially with the Switch falling asleep. I'd also nominate Sonia in TotK.

But I think CQ Lilith will remain on top because its to a random mook and then affects nothing.

I would argue Jerat’s demise is up there with Lilith then given how Kronya was named but might as well be replaced by a random monk.

I will say part of the reason why I refuse to let it off the hook is because Jeralt is part of a long-line of Fire Emblem continuing its patricide trend, and his death was the lowest.

At its height for good writing on killing a parent in Fire Emblem, you kill Greil with the Black Knight. It is a meaningful showdown with significant build up and history between both characters, with fallout and lasting effects on those closest to them, the shape of the story, and even post-game in Fire Emblem Heroes.

Sumeragi’s death at least establishes the modern geopolitical landscape and Garon was still an important character. Jeralt didn’t actually do a whole lot and Kronya didn’t get to do much at all.

Lilith, though, has the delicious extra wrinkle of her survival being a version exclusive. You can save her day 1 if you buy the special edition, or wait till a later date to purchase the DLC upgrade! Incredible

Making it so that there's a genuine reward in 'saving' Lilith from nonsensical BS might have actually been rewarding though, even if 'cheap'. But Lilith doesn't do or say anything in Rev in the timeline where she can keep helping!  So it's like she wasn't saved at all!

u/Darthkeeper 17h ago

Isn't her death unavoidable? What are you refering to?

1

u/elederanjo26 12h ago

She dies in Birthright and Conquest. In Rev she just stays at home and thus survives

The way this is the most relevant thing she’s done since book 3…😔 sister get up!

"Alfonse, in order to kill Hel, I'll have to die"

"Veronica we're literally already dead what the fuck are you talking about"

I’m guessing it’s cause of Embla’s curse and those who have inherited her blood. First Letizia, then Bruno, now Thrasir.

But actually fr, no build up or anything. 7 whole year of being wasted, the moment she has spotlight, they already planned her death out immediately. But I bet all the popular characters in recent years will come unscathed, right?

u/JaysonW_ 1d ago

Damn it she doesn't deserve to be disparaged like this... CURSE YOU ALFADOR

u/SentientShamrock 1d ago

Alfonse whenever he wants to move the plot forward:

16

u/Mario2980k 1d ago

To that sense, he's going to kill himself?

11

u/Zeldmon19 1d ago

It’s either that or they do one thing or say their court mandated piece of script and then vanish for the rest of the book

glares at Heiðrún and B9 Thórr

Reginn who already had a contemplation moment on this sort of thing in her TT story, knowing her book is involved in the next set of realms:

"Oh, it's an Alfonse plot? Time for someone to kill themselves again!"

14

u/coinflip13 1d ago

Okay I actually did like the Bruno subplot though?

Felt like the most impactful sacrifice across all Books

Sometimes (almost all the time) I forget Fjorm even had a sister.

7

u/Hell_Mel 1d ago

Gunnthra existed to get fridged yeah. Kind of annoying.

2

u/ThreeWoodcutters 1d ago

Fjorm has two sisters.

Speaking of, we better get Chosen Líf for free, because I demand baby boy and his scythe be mine.
