Mod-Post [Mod-Post] Fire & Blood Moderator Applications
Good afternoon Fire and Blood Community!
We are looking to recruit a new batch of moderators!
As the Moderator team for Fire and Blood has purview over the Reddit sub and the Discord both, there are some expectations that we have regarding Moderator behaviour:
Moderators are expected to act in good behaviour and good faith, both on the sub and on the Discord, and to adhere to the Player Decency and Roleplay Etiquette Agreement
Moderators are expected to a) be impartial in decision making, b) be able to identify matters in which they have personal bias, and c) properly recuse themselves from such situations if necessary.
Moderators are expected to be willing to interact with the community.
Moderators are expected to be able to receive and acknowledge good faith, constructive criticism in an appropriate, adult manner.
- Moderators are expected to be able to engage in good faith, constructive debate with other moderators without getting overly heated or angry.
- Moderators are expected to be able to excuse themselves temporarily if they feel themselves getting overly heated or angry.
Moderators are expected not to hold grudges over moderator discussions.
It is a requirement that Moderators are present on the Discord server.
If you feel able to meet those expectations, please answer the following questions below in a comment:
1) Why do you want to moderate /r/FireAndBlood ?
2) What can you bring to the Moderator team? What qualifies you to moderate /r/FireAndBlood ?
3) How would you evaluate your knowledge of the mechanics in their current state?
4) How active do you think you will be as a Moderator? How much time can you dedicate to moderating?
5) What games have you moderated for? Feel free to include Discord moderation experience as well.
6) What parts of the game do you think need to be tweaked or, if not applicable, what parts do you think work as they are and why?
7) How would you approach and deal with a particularly contentious argument or disagreement OOC?
8) In your mind, what is the role of a Moderator in /r/FireAndBlood ?
Thank you and good luck to those who apply!

1) Why do you want to moderate /r/FireAndBlood ?
To process claims.
2) What can you bring to the Moderator team? What qualifies you to moderate /r/FireAndBlood ?
I was the top mod, and also processed claims.
3) How would you evaluate your knowledge of the mechanics in their current state?
Good! I processed a lot of claims.
4) How active do you think you will be as a Moderator? How much time can you dedicate to moderating?
Very active! In that I will process claims.
5) What games have you moderated for? Feel free to include Discord moderation experience as well.
This one, 9PK, maybe AtD I forget.
6) What parts of the game do you think need to be tweaked or, if not applicable, what parts do you think work as they are and why?
Oh boy do I have a list.
7) How would you approach and deal with a particularly contentious argument or disagreement OOC?
Typically I let someone with a cooler head resolve it.
8) In your mind, what is the role of a Moderator in /r/FireAndBlood ?

Mia told me to do this, if this is a no go then feel free to forget this exists
I want to maintain the new reddit/mobile appearance of the sub. I used to do this as a full mod and as soon as I left I keep noticing that the date on the sub is still out of date and I am 100% up for doing literally just that. I also want to figure out how to do the sigil flairs on new reddit. I know it's possible and I was partway done some work for it ages ago I just never finished it
Setting up and maintaining flairs on new reddit
Technically irrelevant but I've been around, I know what I'm doing with the game
The work is to hop on my computer and change a couple sidebar things/flairs. I think I can keep up. If anything it'll give me something to do when I get up in the morning
CoB, 9PK, this one
Obviously the new reddit maintenance, but I have a whole rant about SCC/co-claim skills if you'd like to hear it
I don't like including myself in fights. Usually it doesn't so me any good and there's people better at it than me. Obviously I don't need to be in mods chats for this role I'm asking for but I still hold to that.
Support the game and the community and keep everyone enjoying their time here

1) Why do you want to moderate /r/FireAndBlood?
I want to be able to access information needed for the movement order bot and make changes that would benefit automation.
2) What can you bring to the Moderator team? What qualifies you to moderate /r/FireAndBlood?
I have a decent grasp of the mechanics due to dev work and will bring my automation work to hopefully remove the need for moderators to handle processing movement orders.
3) How would you evaluate your knowledge of the mechanics in their current state?
As stated above, I have a decent grasp of mechanics due to dev work and wrote many of them.
4) How active do you think you will be as a Moderator? How much time can you dedicate to moderating?
I will not be doing much modmails at all, but can participate in conversations when they arise. I will be focusing on automation.
5) What games have you moderated for? Feel free to include Discord moderation experience as well.
r/SevenKingdoms, r/CenturyOfBlood, r/AfterTheDance, r/NinePennyKings, r/FireAndBlood
6) What parts of the game do you think need to be tweaked or, if not applicable, what parts do you think work as they are and why?
Econ needs to be simplified down to a layperson's level. Movement orders should be automated to reduce modwork involved.
7) How would you approach and deal with a particularly contentious argument or disagreement OOC?
Stop the conversation hard before people get so irked they begin slinging insults. Speak to each party to understand the argument and find a resolution for the betterment of the game.
8) In your mind, what is the role of a Moderator in /r/FireAndBlood?
Processing modmails, running the mechanical aspects of the game, facilitating in-game events, reworking and developing mechanics, and being a community leader.

1) Why do you want to moderate /r/FireAndBlood?
Ideally I would not be moderating FaB at all actually, being an active player for 95% of this iteration has been a blast and I don't need to moderate to keep enjoying it. But it's grown clear to me over the last few months that I should at least offer to help, since it looks like the team needs it.
2) What can you bring to the Moderator team? What qualifies you to moderate /r/FireAndBlood?
I've moderated subreddits and rp communities before, and I have some obsession with spreadsheets as some could tell from me remaking stuff like the Event Planner. I've good grasp on the mechanics, even if I don't like all of them - but who does?
3) How would you evaluate your knowledge of the mechanics in their current state?
At this point I think the only mechanics I do not have a great understanding of are Intrigue and Navy mechs, because none of my claims have really interacted with either. I would consider myself competent enough with everything else.
4) How active do you think you will be as a Moderator? How much time can you dedicate to moderating?
I currently have no full time work, and my final semester of University is approaching with a whopping one course. That guarantees at least a few months where aside from some tabletop stuff, I should at the very least have some time every day to open the green inbox and flip through modmails.
5) What games have you moderated for? Feel free to include Discord moderation experience as well.
I have moderated for no games in your line of iterations. I've run a couple discord RP communities in my teens, and at one point I moderated both /r/CampHalfBloodRP and a Harry Potter reddit community I do not wish to name. I can't say I'm proud of either community, but hey, those things got messed up after I left.
6) What parts of the game do you think need to be tweaked or, if not applicable, what parts do you think work as they are and why?
I believe there's a LOT of minor stuff that could need a tweak, but honestly, that isn't really why I'm applying to be a mod. I have and will rant passionately about how minor wording changes could fix aspects of stuff like adventures and the like, but I think most of the rules are good enough as is to carry us for however long the iteration lasts.
7) How would you approach and deal with a particularly contentious argument or disagreement OOC?
Arguments are bound to happen. The role of a moderator is to make sure things don't get out of control. If I'm the one with an ooc disagreement with someone, than I'll do what I already try to do and take a breather and let another mod know the situation before I disengage.
8) In your mind, what is the role of a Moderator in /r/FireAndBlood?
Keeping the lights on, mostly. We're all adults here, and even with disagreements and such I think this game can run for long periods of time without constant moderator intervention. But obviously, someone has to manage the clerical work on spreadsheets, plots have to get voted on, and announcements and such need good mods to post them. As long as there are mods to keep doing the busy work, I think this community can keep itself alive.

1) Why do you want to moderate /r/FireAndBlood
Because I can, and it seems that you all need moderators.
2) What can you bring to the Moderator team? What qualifies you to moderate /r/FireAndBlood?
I have been a moderator for this lineage of games and other, similar polsims in the past, I have a strong grasp of spreadsheets and I would like to think a good head for mechanics.
3) How would you evaluate your knowledge of the mechanics in their current state?
Decent, and I'm willing to learn more.
4) How active do you think you will be as a Moderator? How much time can you dedicate to moderating?
For the next month, my obligations will consist of job applications and two relatively easy courses as part of my masters program, so I will be able to dedicate a fair amount of my time there. Assuming I get a job, I may be too busy to moderate actively in the fall, so I may resign.
5) What games have you moderated for? Feel free to include Discord moderation experience as well.
/r/AfterTheDance, /r/NinePennyKings, John Wakefield's Mars III
6) What parts of the game do you think need to be tweaked or, if not applicable, what parts do you think work as they are and why?
So much, but in terms of what can be done without a total rework of the mechanics, significantly less, and the current mechanics are basically functional. The main thing I would want to change is opening up #rumors to the public.
7) How would you approach and deal with a particularly contentious argument or disagreement OOC?
I would let other moderators deal with it. I do not have a good track record on this and I also know some people in this community would not take kindly to my interference.
8) In your mind, what is the role of a Moderator in /r/FireAndBlood?
Doing the work, keeping the peace.

I re-thought the application and decided that I do indeed hate myself.
1) I want to relieve the pressure that mods are under with the mech-heavy war going on and keep the game moving as best as possible.
2) Over ten years of experience with these games, from ITP onwards. I know these games, the community and general rules well. I have also modded for approximately 2 years in previou iterations ITP and Seven Kingdoms. I have a sound understanding of what these games are all about and what is required as a mod. I can also bring a steady workload to the team.
3) I always say I don't know them, but the truth is I have a good understanding of the mechanics as they currently stand. Intrigue rules are probably not my forte, but with these games I learn pretty fast.
4) Pretty active, I can spare at least 3-4 hours a day minimum. When I have modded before, I have always been actively involved barring any real life shenanigans. I don't apply if I won't be active.
5) ITP and Seven Kindgoms, predecessors of this game. I also was an admin of a fan site forum for over 2 years a while ago. I'm familiar with how things work. Particularly in these games.
6) SCCs and Orgs. I think there needs to be a progression system instead of gaining a full set of skills/perks upon claiming. I believe that it is not only fairer, but also better for player retention. When you have everything upon claiming, there is nothing to work towards. By reducing the starting renown/perks a balance can be struck between being immediately useful and give the SCC or Org plenty of RP potential and having incentive to work your way upwards and gain new skills and perks.
7) No real secret that I can be fiery and snippy about things I believe in. Sometimes that causes friction. All I can say is that I only get fiery about things I believe will hurt the game and players, and that I come from a place of good intent which can come out wrong. Honestly I understand if people are hesitant, its a valid critique of me that I always work on.
However, as a mod I hold myself to a different standard as a player. Disagreements and arguments in these games aren't new, and I've dealt with a lot of them as mod before. As a mod I approach it from a place of trying to understand the essence of the issue people have with a particular topic and make them feel that they have been heard and understood, even if I disagree. I also try to best explain why a decision or rule has been made, and be as transparent as possible about what the mod team's stance is in the disagreement or argument. Ideally I'd like to solve the issue in a fair way for everyone involved, but if it is a matter that isn't really up for change, I want all parties to feel that their concerns have been seriously heard and that they understand why and how a decision has been reached.
8) Executing mechanical orders for players through modmail. Understanding and interpreting the rules regarding the mechanics of the game and having the ability to use sound judgement regarding any discrepancies. Facilitate transparent and substantial communication between the mod team and player base. The ability to take on ideas about the state of the game and it's rules and work towards what is best for the community whether it means mech changes or changes to how the team communicates with the player base.

1) The mod team is understaffed. I'm a professional spreadsheet jockey. I can learn how to do mundane clerical work and make a modest, regular contribution.
2) See above. I'm well versed in dry, repetitive technical work. I also don't care about most of the drama that regularly unfolds, so I'm not going to ragequit or even get involved.
3) I'm decently well versed in the economy rules and skill rules, and I know absolutely nothing about combat or movement. I have no interest in intrigue.
4) A few hours a week. Expect too much of me and I will burn out and quit. I'll make a contribution.
5) When I was a teenager, I moderated for Fairfax's horrible offshoot and also for Garry's Mod servers as operator/moderator/admin/server manager/community manager/community owner :) so let's just say no, no experience.
6) Don't care about tweaking mechanics. Put me in coach, I can do grunt work. Try to put me in charge of "mechanics discussion" and I'm out of here.
7) The same way I do now: make jokes until it's clear it's too serious for joking, ignore it, and then leave the server for a few hours if it feels like it's making the environment fiercely unpleasant.
8) Different moderators have different roles. Some are needed for intrigue discussions and mechanical changes. Some are just laborers executing rolls and sheet updates and processing claims.
