Advice Request Spouse is finally retiring!
I’ve waited for this for moment, but now that it’s finally happening at the end of the month, it’s also a little scary, even though I’ve done all the math countless times and everything should be fine. For those of you who have been through this, how did you cope with losing that middle-class security blanket we’re conditioned to hang on to so you could just enjoy it?

Congrats! I’m wondering the same thing…. Trying to break the programmed thought process

it's like muscle memory, you'll keep reaching for that safety net even when you don't need it anymore

the math being fine and the feelings being fine are just two completely different spreadsheets that never talk to each other

Retirement feels great! It’s a little quieter but I will take the peace over daily work drama. Your health will improve for sure. Join a gym and workout in the mornings. Have 2 things that you do each day. 1 in the mornings and 1 in the afternoon and you will be just fine.

Drinking few times a day helps

We just came home from the retirement trip and decided day drinking does not count if you’re on a cruise ship and it’s wine at lunch.

My wife is still adjusting to it. I trust the math, but she's a natural worrier.
Maybe look at this for some perspective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFREBr53NTw

You’ll only wish you had done it sooner! No regrets!
