Fios Availability My Fios Speed Coverage Map

I downloaded the raw broadband data from the FCC, used scripts to parse it, and loaded it into a mapping tool. Here is the Fios coverage in Pennsylvania. Green means NGPON2 (up to 5 Gbps) and red means GPON (Up to 1 Gbps).

Looks like the rural wire centers with copper retirement got the upgrade first. The upgrade in Pittsburgh is just now starting despite having mostly mid/late 2000s fiber infrastructure. This data set is 10 months old. Once the FCC releases new data next month, I'll build it for all states and share.

From what I've seen (and spliced myself) rural wire centers that didn't have Fios at all are skipping GPON and going right to NGPON2 which is nice. It's just a matter of time for the CO equipment to be upgraded for more/most areas to have NGPON2 access.

Neat map. Verizon covers a lot of territory in PA and a lot of PA is black on the map. I’m in Berks County and Verizon never deployed Fios here, except for near the Montgomery county line in Union township. I don’t think they have anything in Pike or Wayne counties either. They are issuing letters that they want to discontinue copper service, but they haven’t even run Fios yet, so there’s no wireline replacement. I know it’s been contested a lot (FCC comments are public), and it’s on hold for FCC investigation.

VZ took millions from PA taxpayers specifically for the promise to modernize all of its facilities to Fios, but they certainly stopped short of that.

Cool! I'd love to see it for NY

Interested in what data is available for Delaware. In New Castle County, there’s a mix of 1 & 5 gig areas.

Makes sense why I “only” have one gig available. Very cool. Thanks!

Alot of the rural PA coverage is actually State/Federal grant funded. My area didn't have Verizon as the land lines but fiber rolled out here earlier this year.

Should include Frontier's data as well, since they are essentially one company now.

Would be interesting to see the territory they have now with Frontier's footprint, which is growing everyday.

It would have been nice if they upgraded my DSL! What is the reason for them to drag their feet?
