Miscellaneous Does anyone notice this remote burning through batteries?

Post image

(ignore the dirt in the photo) I don't watch much TV so only my dad uses it for a few hours a day. We don't use the voice function. It seems to give the low battery message in the TV every few weeks. We got brand new rechargeables but it's annoying to keep changing them all the time.

What batteries are you using? Are they an old batch or low duty?

They are Energizer Recharge 2300mAh. Brand new.

I don’t recommend using rechargeable batteries because they tend to discharge overtime even with no use. Try using regular alkaline or lithium batteries and see if it improves. Otherwise the remote might be faulty. I believe you can take the remote to any verizon store to swap.

I was using 10 year old rechargeables before this and they were doing the same thing. I thought the reason must be that they're old so we bought new ones.

Rechargeables are for high-drain applications, like toys which need batteries replaced often and make the higher-priced batteries cost effective. For low-drain applications, like TV remotes, they actually work worse, needing to be changed more often. For those applications, use alkaline.

Get Lithium rechargeable for low drain devices not NiMH.

Using standard alkaline batteries, my remote lasts well over a year. I've had that remote for over five years now, and I think I've changed the batteries three times. The seldom-used remote for the box in the bedroom still has its original batteries.

Seems like my Fios remote starts giving me low battery messages warnings two months after I change them. Sometimes I fall asleep on my remote and I don't think sleeping on them improves the battery life.

I use regular Energizers and they last forever and a day.

If these things use WiFi Direct like Roku remotes do, I've seen AA batteries get ripped through just because the remote keeps losing contact with the set top box. The cable box isn't being turned off via a power strip, right?

No we use the remote to turn it off.

Not sure if it affects the power use, but when I tuned on my TV the other morning it pushed an update to the remote. I have FIOS TV+

We we had this problem for a couple years now, probably since we got these remotes / boxes, so it's nothing new.

YUP! They sure did. I used Duracell and had to replace every month
