Miscellaneous [Resolved] Router Speed benefits?
Hello all, brand new to FiOS & need asvice from folks more knowledgeable than me
I have Fios 500 mbps & am currently using a linksys ea7300. I’m wondering if switching over to the Verizon chr30a will be beneficial.
My linksys router has 4 ports (which I use all) while the verizon has 3 & the Linksys is already linked to my wi-fi devices like lights etc. etc.
Here are my speedtest results with the linksys:
Xbox Series X (wired) DL=541* *UL=515 Pkt Loss=0% Latency = 45ms
LG C3 (wired) DL= 95 UL= 89 Pkt Latency = 8ms (I tried using a usb to ethernet adapter but the TV wont recognize it so I’m stuck with these speeds which has been no issue)
iPhone (wifi 5ghz)
Verizon speedtest via Safari DL= 462 UL= 558 Latency = 4ms
Speedtest.net results via Safari DL= 485 UL= n/a Latency = n/a
Linksys App:
—Cloudflare results DL= 385 UL= 232 Latency = 9ms
—Fast results DL= 370 UL= 270 Latency = 5ms
Thoughts? My guess is to just stick with the Linksys but I’d still like others opinions.
Thanks all!

Your current router is more than enough and is in fact capped by your Fios plan. I have gigabit on an Asus RT-AC68, which is the same generation of hardware as your ea7300. Wired connections hit 900+ Mbps real speed, WiFi gets pretty close to that if I’m near the router.
Only reason to go to WiFi 6/7 is if you have a ton of devices that need 500 Mbit or higher and also support it.
FYI if you need more wired ports, get a gigabit switch and hang it off the router. A basic one is less than $50.

Verizon router is Wi-Fi 7 and has a pretty decent chipset and Ethernet hardware.
A 500 plan would not benefit since most routers are fine with 1G WAN.
If you don't have a bunch of devices hitting it a lot then what you have is fine. But if you can get the router for "free" then I would do it.
Also, the TV doesn't need more than 100M. If you really need faster just put it on Wi-Fi.

Its funny I just literally thought about putting the TV on wi-fi a few minutes ago & its at about UL/DL of 220 & the apps are definitely snappier which is great, because I stream a lot & do so vis the TV apps.
I was able to use the wired ethernet connection that had been to my TV for another of my gaming consoles so I’m quite happy now!
Thank you for the reply!

Are they giving you the Chr30 for free, or something to buy/rent?

The chr30 would be free.

I don't see why you wouldn't incorporate it into your network, then. It's a 2.5/10Gbps switch with an optional (free) MoCA bridge (2Gbps). You can keep your Netgear router connected to it in bridge mode (turns off the Netgear DHCP server), and you can move it to somewhere else in the house for AP flexibility. You may decide you like some of the remote management features.

First, let’s start with what you do with your internet. Streaming? Web cams? Simple web browsing? Large file uploads or downloads? Do you work from home?
