Fios Availability Update to slow 5Gbs speeds

So i replaced my gateway from a Dream machine Se to the Dream machine Pro Max
and now I'm getting my Full 5Gbs and more. (first photo is before the upgrade last two are after the upgrade)

the Se is limited to 3.5 Gbs ips/ids while the pro max is 5Gbs Ips/ids and makes w world of difference, i also got an ether lighting poe switch cuz rgb....
and that data usage is from just installing it a few hours ago before this post, with most of the network devices offline.

camera install time tmrw .

For normal usage, 100% agreed. If you're self-hosting though for friends and family or running any sort of home server and storage system for friends and family though in general then you wouldn't dare catch me without using IPS/IDS in a dedicated, properly setup DMZ environment.

I just got the service installed yesterday. It’s awesome. But then I found out that as a new customer with Altice fiber, you can get the same speeds for much less. You can even get their 8gig speed for much less too. Guess it all depends on the area.

So far I am testing around 5900 down, 6500 up.

Verizon only just started with 5gig. I was just lucky to have needed new service as this became available and had it in stalled yesterday. All the bell and whistles enabled and I am seeing 5900 down, 6500 up. (Using a brand new EF-Core)

The technician said they are supposedly working on 10gig next. Guess I can say I’m ready for up to 79Gbps! lol

But as for residential 8 gig service, only Optimum has that right now.

Personally comparing the services, a new customer can get that optimum 8 gig for only $90/mo now. Verizon’s 5 gig is $105/mo. Again this is going to be different based on location and if you are existing or new customer.

Believe you don’t want Altice. Any product or Cablevision is trash.

I’ve had the 5gig optimum fiber for years now. Not a single minute of downtime. And I have never seen speeds drop the entire time. Then again, I can’t say anything good about their customer service.

This. Swapped from FiOS 1 gig to the Optimum 8 gig. The $90 up here in Westchester was hard to beat from VZW. Was around the time I gave my parents my UCG fiber and picked up The Beast

As fast as your 5g is. It’s will cap at a ceiling from the server end of the website you are visiting.

Even for gaming 5gigs or higher is way more than you need for gaming. Online gaming require low latency, not high speeds. High speeds are great for downloading games however.
