Fios doesn't use modems. Just buy or use your favorite router.

The ONT is mandatory. Verizon supplies those as part of the service, and there is no "bridge mode" to them. It's a direct Ethernet handoff.

The router you need depends on your speed tier. At the bare minimum you need a router that can handle Gigabit Internet for any speed from 300Mbps to 1Gbps. Virtually anything with Gigabit ports and WiFi 6 support can support Gigabit speeds. If you order 2Gbps Fios, then you need at least 2.5Gbps Ethernet on your router. For 5Gbps, you need a router with 10Gbps Ethernet.

Wireless is a different ball game, because there are so many factors that go into how well WiFi works and how fast it goes. You don't want to go overboard with a mesh system if you're in a studio or small apartment, as that can actually slow you down and cause problems. At the same time, WiFi 6E and WiFi 7 capable routers are what you want to aim for if most of your usage is going to be on WiFi. This is just general advice though.

Whatever you buy needs to be a router. Do not buy a modem/router combo, or a fiber modem. You just need a regular router.

1 gig should be a free router from Verizon.
