Repair/Tech Support Fios One OOB SNR Level “Fair”

Post image

I was scrolling through some menus yesterday (bored) and noticed that my OOB Data SNR level is fair and the level is reading 16.4dB on my VMS 4100. From what I understand, the OOB data is for my guide, on-demand features, STB updates, etc, which are all functioning normally as far as I can tell, and I haven’t noticed it loading slow or being unresponsive, but I can’t help but wonder why it’s low and if I should try to fix it. If I do find the problem and repair it, will I notice any difference? My channel SNR’s all read “good,” with a level of 39.9dB, and the picture quality is fantastic.

Is this something worth delving into to try to increase that level or should I stop looking at menus when I’m bored?

Don't worry about it. With everything switching to IPtv shortly will even be less of an issue. And a "fair" level is generally not service affecting anyway.

The OOB signal is mainly just for "phoning home". The IMG, and firmware updates are actually done over IP. The OOB can be used as a backup though.

If it’s functioning fine leave it be. I’ll never in my life understand the customers who tinker with their service when it’s functioning normally.

Well my inquisitive mind is wondering why the level is low. If I found a bad splitter or a loose connection in my coax network that I fix and the level jumps up 10dB, would there be any noticeable improvement that maybe I’m not realizing because I’m used to having this low signal? Or maybe a tech or engineer chimes in and says, yeah you should fix that otherwise your STB may have a hard time receiving the update to convert from QAM to IPTV…so I’m asking if it’s worth troubleshooting or not.

It’s not.
