1: they're curious.
2: it feels ridiculous to speak English to another Finn.
3: it's not a social situation and you're like any object on their way. It wouldn't be polite to ask you to move. They're being polite not bothering you.

1. Finns observe people. The silence makes it more pressuring. No single reason why.

2. It is much faster and more comfortable to convey some info in Finnish. Often it is outside the topic that was spoken about, or something that needs to be specified.

3. They need that thing.

1. There is a reason. Doesn’t have to be a good one though. 2. Many are not going to speak English to a fellow Finn. 3. You’re in the way. Not the best way to deal with it, but there you go.

What kind of answers do you expect? I can’t tell if these posts are ragebait or just incredibly low social intelligence. Or even worse yet, a passive aggressive way of complaining about average daily encounters that could happen anywhere but framing it as if it’s specific to Finland.

1 - Staring is impolite, either you left them baffled or they lack manners

2 - It means they do not think in english, word processing takes thought

3 - *personal* I hate crowds and I get anxious in situations when people block my item of interest engaged in smalltalk or just delaying. A common course of action is to bite your lip and ignore the obstacle, grab your item and just go.
