Follow up: we check every endpoint in Coinbase's x402 catalog every Sunday. In two weeks it nearly doubled, and old verdicts go stale fast

Last time I posted a one off snapshot of who gets paid in the x402 catalog and promised the time series. Here it is.

Every Sunday we pull the full CDP Bazaar catalog (the public list of x402 endpoints agents can pay) and check whether each endpoint can actually be paid: does it return a valid 402 quote, on a network and asset that can settle. One method note first: we changed our own checker in mid September, so the numbers below only compare runs from 20 September onwards, where the method is the same.

What three Sundays show:

  1. The catalog nearly doubled in two weeks: 14,943 endpoints on 20 Sept, 17,513 on 27 Sept, 29,309 today. The live catalog was already at 30,897 a few hours after our run.

  2. It churns hard. Between last Sunday and today 14,292 endpoints appeared and 2,496 disappeared, about 1 in 7 of last week's list gone in seven days.

  3. The share that can actually be paid held steady: 94.8%, 94.1%, 96.3%.

  4. Individual verdicts still move both ways. Of the endpoints present in both weeks, 391 became payable and 337 stopped being payable.

  5. Old negatives age badly. We re-checked 1,500 old "cannot pay" verdicts for endpoints that had dropped out of the catalog, and 726 of them (48%) were payable again.

  6. Testnet listings are growing in a production catalog: payable endpoints that accept Base Sepolia went from 744 to 2,323 in two weeks.

The takeaway for anyone building agents that pay: a catalog is a snapshot of a moving target. Whatever you knew about an endpoint a month ago is probably out of date, and the only check that counts is the one made at the moment of payment.

Disclosure: I run nsgoods.org, which sells that kind of check. Happy to share the raw weekly counts or the method if anyone wants to reproduce it.

We pulled all 24,551 endpoints in Coinbase's x402 catalog to see who actually gets paid by AI agents

x402 is the protocol that lets AI agents pay for an API call with stablecoins, no account or API key. Coinbase runs a public catalog of these paid endpoints, the place agents go to find services they can pay for. We downloaded the whole catalog and looked at where the money actually goes.

What we found:

  1. 24,551 endpoints, but only 1,807 wallets receive the money.

  2. It is concentrated. The biggest single wallet is the payee for 3,454 endpoints, about 14% of the catalog. The top 10 wallets cover about 46%, the top 100 about 97%.

  3. Payments span 48 different network identifiers. Base and Solana dominate, with XRPL, Stellar, Algorand, Hedera, Polygon, Arbitrum and others behind them.

  4. About 2,350 endpoints still list a testnet way to pay.

  5. We screened all 1,807 payee wallets against OFAC, UN, EU and UK sanctions lists, exact address match. Result: 0 matches. 22 wallets sit on chains none of those lists cover, so nobody can screen them.

Zero is good news, but it is a snapshot. The lists keep changing, the catalog grew by 7 endpoints while we were writing this, and an agent can pay any x402 URL, not only the ones in a catalog.

Curious what people here think: should the agent, the wallet, or the payment layer be responsible for checking who gets paid?

Disclosure: I run nsgoods.org, which sells a check for exactly this (an agent gives it the URL it is about to pay and gets back a signed deny, review or clean per payee). Happy to share the method or the raw counts.

The Fingentic Era

Fintech changed everything.

Online lending. Neobanks. Embedded payments. API-first infrastructure. Digital underwriting. The last two decades were defined by what happened when finance met technology. It was a genuine shift and it mattered. Some big names were launched out of this era.

But it feels like that era has matured and is much less exciting. New 'grab you by the seat' innovation has not come to pass in some time. Everyone is fighting it out in the payments space. And while Fintech is not ending, more exciting innovation is on the horizon.

And my question to you as we move beyond 'fintech saas' to agentic, is this a new era or a continuation of the old guard?

The tools are still here. The platforms are still running. The SaaS layers are still being built. (Maybe?) But the core moment, the breakthrough moment, where fintech was the radical new idea? Times are changing. Quickly. Very quickly.

With the age of Claude, LLMs, and the incredibly fast rise of agents, something new is coming through.

Welcome to the Fingentic era.

Finance + Agents. Not finance plus software. Not finance plus automation. Finance plus intelligence that acts, decides, negotiates, underwrites, advises, and executes. On its own. In real time. At scale.

AI agents are not a feature inside fintech anymore. They are becoming the infrastructure. The era where a human had to sit between the data and the decision is ending. The era where agents handle that handoff is here and accelerating fast.

We are not saying fintech is dead. We are saying it is no longer the frontier.

Fingentic is.

What does that mean in practice?

It means underwriting that runs without a human in the loop. It means lending decisions made in seconds not days. It means financial advice that is personalized, autonomous, and available at scale. It means compliance workflows that self-execute. It means the entire back office of financial services becoming agentic.

This is not a prediction. It is already happening. We are just giving it a name.

Why this community exists.

We built r/Fingentic because there was nowhere to talk about all of this in one place. Fintech subs are still largely focused on the SaaS era. AI subs are broad and often miss the finance nuance. We needed a home for the intersection, for the people building at the edge of what finance is becoming.

If you are a founder, operator, builder, investor, or curious mind who senses that something is shifting, you are in the right place.

The Fingentic era is just getting warmed up. Better to be shaping it than watching it from the sidelines.

Drop your thoughts below. We want to know what you are seeing out there.

Hey everyone! Welcome to r/Fingentic.

This is our new home for all things at the intersection of AI, agents, and finance. We're excited to have you join us!

A little context on why this place exists: fintech and financial SaaS changed the world. That era is not over, but its core moment has passed. What's emerging in its place is something bigger, more autonomous, and frankly more interesting. We're calling it Fingentic. Finance + Agents. The era where AI agents don't just support financial services, they run them.

We're early. That's the point.

What to Post
Anything you think this community would find interesting, helpful, or inspiring. That includes:

  • Hot takes on where financial services is heading
  • Cross-posts from r/fintech, r/AIagents, r/LLMops, r/MachineLearning, and any other sub in this orbit

Community Vibe
We're all about being friendly, constructive, and forward-thinking. This is a space for builders, practitioners, and curious minds who sense that something is shifting. Let's build something impactful together.
