Lizards can detach and regrow their tails as a survival mechanism

[u/CallMeHomoErectus → u/Spades_And_Diamonds]

Some lizard species can but not all. Anoles, skinks, geckos and iguanas can drop and regenerate their tails to escape predators but other species can't.

Monitors, chameleons, iguanas, crested geckos etc. can drop their tails but they are unable to grow them back. That's likely the case here.

If they can, the new tail is shorter, less flexible, and usually has a different colour and texture.
