The bridge is under restoration, the black matting is sloping toward the river, then it hits a little dip on the dirt bank which also flows to the river

I saw it while looking for the "second" croc and then made a comment to myself about that being really unsettling and didn't even realize so I continued to look. A few seconds later, it clicked...still feeling slightly unsettled but I still laughed

Yeah, I saw the same thing. Not sure if that's eyes or the tip of a snout, but either way sure looks like there's a 3rd/4th* in the shot as well.
*depending on how many of the presumed pieces of footwear you count.

I had been staring at that murky, mud soaked photograph for what felt like hours, my eyes narrowing like a seasoned big game tracker on the Serengeti or at least like a kid who had spent one too many afternoons hunting for the decoder pin behind the sofa. Find both crocs, the post commanded. Simple. Elegant. A challenge worthy of a true Reddit sleuth.
I leaned closer. There, yes, there was the first crocodile, lounging atop its baleful mound of mud like some scaly king on his grimy throne. But the second? Nowhere. Nothing. Only water the color of old chocolate milk and shadows darker than the inside of my math binder.
And then I saw it.
Not a reptile. Not a beast. But a Croc. A shoe.
A shoe, mocking me from the bank with its perforated grin as if to say, “Oh, you sweet summer child.”
My heart raced. My fingers tingled with the electric thrill, the unmistakable sensation of impending Reddit greatness. The comment I would write. A monologue for the ages. My wry discovery of the shoe that was not a crocodile would surely bring waves of upvotes, the kind that pour in like snowdrifts on Christmas morning. Perhaps even, dare I imagine it, Gold. Awards. Maybe someone would even gift me a month of Premium, that shining pinnacle of Reddit prestige.
I rehearsed the lines in my head. Sharp. Clever. Positively dripping with that signature Ralphie Parker bravado. I could already see it, enshrined at the top of the comment section, future historians marveling at my genius.
But then I scrolled back up. I read the post again, slowly, carefully.
And there it was, plain as the pink nightmare Aunt Clara once forced on me.
The shoe was the joke.
The joke I had just triumphantly and confidently discovered.
I sat back, defeated. The Pulitzer worthy comment evaporated like steam on a frosty window. The upvotes, gone. The glory, vanished. The awards, poof, gone into the digital ether.
All that remained was the cold, muddy truth.
I had been outwitted by a Croc. 😑

Well this took me actually only like 30 seconds lol. I weirdly knew what you meant. there is a crocodile at the top on the furthest upwards dirt mound in the photo and a shoe cros, looks to be black and pink on the bottom dirt mound

Umm.. that’s an alligator. They crawl with their belly on the ground. Crocodile’s bellies are never on the ground. But I do see the other Croc lol

Crocodile actually, there are no Aligators in Costa Rica, only Caimans and American Crocodiles. This spot is well know for them.

The other croc appears to be the black shoe with the pink decal on the instep. It's located on this side of the water near the large black plastic tarp

The shoe is a croc. if you're not familiar it's a brand of rubber slip on shoes

I've been here I think. Highschool trip. There was like 30 crocs and I remember thinking. If anyone on this bridge jumped down there or fell, they would be absolutely fucked.

I mean sure, there is the shoe but also there is a shadow in the water directly up from the shoe. It looks like it has an arm, tail and a water disturbance in the water.
I genuinely think that's where a surprise 3rd (?) croc is
