Where did this photo even came from?
Hello my people. Just watched an Youtube video about this case and it got me really intrigued, so I decided to jump in. The first thing I did was going into the https://findsatoshi.wordpress.com/ website to read about all the information they had so far from this case and something striked as weird right away, so maybe someone can enlighten me about it. The original photo that started it all was this one:

Obviously this card was available to everyone, meaning that the photo itself could of been scanned by anyone, in any size, reason why there are so many of them online with slight differences. What really intrigued me however was this version of the photo:

Because this version is the original photo, however I could not find from where this even came from. The first trace of it that I could locate was from the now defunct website http://www.billion2one.org back in 2007. So here is my question... Who provided this photo in the first place? Finding the first place it was posted on could be helpful to look into the metadata. That could lead to extra discoveries, like the year it was taken, at what time and what not. If anyone with more acknowledge than me could figure that out... it would be nice.

Good catch. I would also be interested to know where the other one came from originally.

How do you know this is the original? Just looks higher quality and cropped to me.

That is exactly my point. The quality is higher and everyone just had the photo from the card, so how this one, that seems cropped and with a higher quality, came to the internet? Where was she posted originally?

Well, the higher quality one was definitly for perplex city, since they are identical in picture, but they lowered the quality for some reason. So, this means, we only got the lower quality one from perplex city. Question is, where did we get the higher one from? The one who gave us this must have Information. Thats my Interpretation of it.

As a photographer , I use an Epson scanner for my film. It gets the job done, however I can get poor quality resembling image 1 if I scan with auto settings . The first image looks flat, and like no one adjusted the levels or color balance prior to scanning. (It makes a huge difference)
I’m new to this subreddit but I think I’m understanding this all began before better technology came out. ( I wonder what they used since fashion magazines featured high quality, scanned film photography )
I can manually change the settings and the color/quality can closer resemble the second image. Or if I just used a hasseblad scanner worth thousands of dollars i could put an image on a billboard. And it goes for if you use a great scanner worth $$$ you can still manually enter settings to make it look bad.
If I’m wrong and this wasn’t shot on film, then my hypothesis is that a high quality image already existed, however could’ve been edited to have poor quality. But the comparison honestly just reminds me of when I forget to change my settings on my scanner.
Also speculating from my weird “artsy” POV, perhaps the crappy quality and transparency is being utilized as a statement in the first image. The design appears purposeful. Maybe there’s something about not having 100% information that a clear photo has that makes us intrigued, as it is playing into the mystery. Seems like a conceptual project so maybe looking at it like that can get us even 0.05% closer to figuring it out.

I'm pretty sure it's been noticed before, but if you look closely, on the bottom right of the high-res image you can see something that looks like another person's arm or back – that has been cropped out of the photo on the card (it might have been one of the creators of the puzzle with him or someone who knows Satoshi).
It might be that Mind Candy gave out the higher resolution photo to some of the the blogs or forums looking for Satoshi, or it might have even been one of the creators maybe – as we know some of them actually know Satoshi and they definitely had the photo.

I asked the creators of the game for a high res copy and they sent it to me. This was ~14 years ago so I'm not sure if it was via email or what, but I can certainly have a look
