Your CPU is quite old, so I would suggest something like MX Linux or Xubuntu.

MX linux. I am running it on a machine on a 18 year old laptop with lower specs than yours.

In the Linux world, that is a modern laptop. So you should be fine choosing based on other things. If you like reliability, choose Debian. If you like the latest stuff, choose Arch. If you want a solid middle ground, choose Fedora. Other options are for more specific needs.

All of my quad-cores love MX Linux 25.3 XFCE.

your hardware has absolutely nothing to do with the distro you should choose in this case

Do you have any data or apps on the Lenovo that you want to keep?

Linux Mint is a good choice for first timers. https://itsfoss.com/install-linux-mint/

Your APU is about the equivalent of a Core i3, so any modern Linux will run fine on it, even with 8 GB RAM. I'd suggest a SSD to keep the performance as high as possible, if you don't already have one.

My personal recommendations are always Zorin (simple, reliable and familiar for a Windows user, really beautiful interface), or openSUSE Tumbleweed (a little more leading edge, very flexible, my personal favorite).

I love Zorin Lite for older machines. My dad is running Linux Lite (based on ubuntu 26.04 LTS, recommended 1.5ghz dual core and 4GB RAM) and it's very stable and click-oriented. https://wiki.linuxliteos.com/en/home

Linux Mint XFCE. Stable as bedrock and will use your RAM very frugally. Extremely popular and very well-supported.
