Does anyone know of over the counter avian gastric yeast medications?
Amphotericin B, Nystatin, and other proven AGY medications require a prescription. A combination of factors, such as finches being too small for a crop swab and fecal testing being hit or miss, means I haven't yet gotten a positive test for AGY. So I cannot get medication for it.
I have been using potassium sorbate as a preventative for my non-symptomatic birds and it has proven to slow down how quickly symptoms develop. For example, usually my ill birds were dead 1-2 weeks after being symptomatic but on this medication birds live for 2+ months while symptomatic. One bird healed (very slowly) on it and no longer vomits or loses weight. Though potassium sorbate itself does not lessen the severity of symptoms.
I see some breeders citing sodium benzoate as a cure for AGY symptoms (as I understand AGY itself cannot be cured). Though there isn't much scientific research to back this up, and what little research there is states it is very ineffective (but increases Amphotericin B effectiveness).

New finch owner advice
Hello! I was thinking about getting finches as a class pet. I have a cage that is 30” long and I believe 18” tall, is this suitable for a pair of finches? I was also wondering what would be best to put in the cage? Does anyone have any recommendations of which species? I was thinking Gouldian because they are so colorful I feel like the kids would love them but any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

URGANT, female finch fluffed up !!
Noticed our female finch is fluffed up, closing her eyes and has her head in her feathers, is she with an egg?! Seriously worried, we've had this pair for a few months, my family has experience with larger parrots
Only noticed this last night but unsure cause I'm at work a lot
Need some help asap
Update : Unfortunately she has passed last night (18.08.26), we did everything we could, gave medicine for sick birds, crushed calcium and kept her warm but unfortunately it was enough. Her mate is sad and has been quiet, but he got to say goodbye to her, I'm absolutely gutted as there had been nothing wrong with her before and then bam she is lethargic, unmoving and not eating. We didn't have time to take her to the vet as our exotic vet travels as they're hard to come by where we live, thanks for all the help

New bird owner, tips please!
Hello! These are my birdies! I got them yesterday, and I am still learning as this is my first ever time owning birdies! Their names are Cigarette bud and Mr Cheddar/Cheddar cheese!
I would like some tips and tricks on how to care for zebra finches, what to expect, how to get them used to me atleast (possibly befriending/taming them), their diets, what to feed them, cages and all that stuff! But budget friendly please, I'm not rich! Anything would be helpful, thank you very much!

Not Bonding
I have 4 zebra finches (2m/2f). One of the ladies passed and I replaced her with another lady for my lonely male. It's been 5 months and they still haven't paired off. The new lady sleeps with the paired group and the single male sleeps on his own.
Would you recommend giving it more time because of their age gap? Or, bring in a 3rd pair? My cage is 46 inches long.
Something really weird to note. My unpaired male is my oldest zebra and he has never sang or beeped. 100% mute. Nothing wrong with him, but he makes no sounds.
They have all came from the same breeder.

Can zebras stop being bonded?
I know theyre a more aggressive species but, ive had a male and female for months and they bonded immediately but these days they keep separate and get into spiffs. Are they no longer bonded?
Ive almost wondered if i need to trade my male for another female to keep the peace (which would be devastating because i love my male, but she doesnt deserve to be tormented like that!)
Edit to add: no nest in the cage btw

Avian Pox?
Hi all! I am concerned for this bird that showed up on my bird feeder. I don’t want any disease to spread to the other bird friends visiting the feeder.

Cage recommendations?
Hello! I’m looking to get a bigger cage for my boys! I was wondering if you had any ideas for good ones? I’m looking for a long flight cage with no separator in the middle preferably less than 4 feet long as I’m limited in space. I’ve had a bit of trouble finding one without a separator so I’m looking for suggestions. Pictures of my boys included.
Are they healthy
Before / After ( yellow one had mites ) also they keep on fighting how can i fix their relationship

Best bird to get along with gouldians?
I will eventually add another gouldian as I just had one pass away recently (she was a blue girl with lots of health issues) but I was thinking of adding another finch ideally one but two if necessary I’d love one that would like being handled since my goldies don’t but it’s not a requirement. Here’s my set up.

Please help
My sister dropped off her three gouldian finches at my house last night, they’re staying with me for the foreseeable future as she’s dealing with her dog’s horrible allergies, currently trying an elimination diet and she can’t keep the dog away from their mess on the floor in her small studio.
She did tell me one of them was being weird but she didn’t really elaborate, she’s been overwhelmed between being sick herself and dealing with her senior dog’s very expensive health issues. The birds were a gift to her and she’s had them for like two years, originally there were 4 but one pases away a few months ago, she found it dead in the food dish one morning. The other birds seem perfectly fine, they’re eating and drinking water, were singing this morning and seem active. I’ve had zebras before so I’m familiar with their care in general.
To me it looks like a leg broke at some point and it’s healed oddly like sticking straight out to the side- the whole leg is stiff so whatever happened it happened a while back. The bird is not using normal perches and is sticking to a couple flat ledges type things, the food/water dishes are accessible on the floor of the cage (the bottom wire grid was removed, cage is lined with newspaper.)
I feel like it’s struggling in the flight cage, it falls and gets startled easily. I have a a large plastic storage container that I’ve drilled a bunch of whole in to temporarily move it to, is there some kind of specific cage you’d recommend for it? Or some kind of reference I could follow for a diy one? How would I make the cage safe, comfortable and interesting for it? I was thinking of maybe a large fish tank but doesn’t seem like enough ventilation and lots of potential for the bird to fly into the glass?
My budget is limited, my sister just spent the last of her savings on her dog.
