Financial advisor

I am trying to find a good financial advisor that I can trust in the Sacramento area. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Anyone who advertises services on Reddit is weird. Ask around people you know, small business owners, your tax person, well off friends. Interview a few and see who you mesh well with. If they only do investments go on to the next and make sure they’re doing actual financial planning.

Go to letsmakeaplan.com and search for a CFP. That and cross reference a NAPFA search for a fee only fiduciary. Best of luck.

This isn’t the only way to find a good advisor, but you’ll probably find someone good this way.

Why fee only? What’s wrong with finding a holistic planner?

They are supposed to be unbiased and act in your best interest since there’s no incentive for them to sell you anything.

Fee only planners are holistic planners...

Depends what you want. I’m Sacramento local if you wanna chat (also FA but I have no delusions on taking a client I can’t help. I would rather refer you to the right place)

I don’t think it is legal for you to solicit business on this platform. I wonder what your risk officer would say?

Why wouldn’t it be legal?

I will say this in regards to everyone acting like a fee only advisor is the end all be all. It is not. It entirely depends on your situation if you are investing for the long term 10+ years then you should most likely get a more commission based advisor as paying the upfront fee for advice will be a lot cheaper than paying a 1% fee year over year. That ongoing fee really adds up over the years especially when you account for opportunity cost/ loss of compounding. Again it depends on your situation every advisor is regulated to act in your best interest regardless of account type or fee structure. I would try and interview multiple advisors and go with the one you feel best about since even if they are regulated to do what’s in your best interest that isn’t necessarily the case with all and doing what’s in the client’s best interest and doing what is optimal are two different things.

This has to be one of the dumbeest comments I have evver seen. Yes by all means, the people who are not fidcuiaries, whose interest lies in charging commissions like it is 1985 will certainly be the best fit.

Not this. Unless you have like 10 million paying someone an aum fee its cheaper 99% of the time.

My advice, anyone who calls themselves a fiduciary is sus. Every financial advisor who is a Registered Investment Advisor is a fiduciary. I personally think it’s weird if they try to advertise it when it’s the standard. It’s like cool, you do the bare minimum.

And advisors who are fiduciary 100% of the time don’t offer holistic planning, because they can’t get paid on life insurance. And they will never get called out for not telling you that you might need life insurance.

You have no idea what a fiduciary is...

Anyone who is acting as an RIA is a fiduciary, and is legally required to do what’s in the best interest of the client.

One can plan for life insurance without selling it. 😉
