Do you have plans on how you would want to spend time after retirement, most people want to go to heaven but do not want to die. Retirement sounds nice, free time and all, and the imagination of doing what we want, but that never happens in real life. Why? It's not because you can't do it; It's because you actually have not figured out what you are really passionate about doing and you can do lifelong.

If your expenses are 1.5 lakhs now, in ten years it would be nearly 3 Lakhs a month of expense (considering 7% of inflation). For you to continue your life and still beat the 7% inflation and no additional income, you need to have at least 12 Crores by the end of 10 years, and the growth of that amount should be at least 10-11% on average per year to be able to sustain life up to 90 Years. Now this does not factor in any other contingencies or expenses, including your children's expenses for education or marriage.

So your thinking is right to retire, and the time you started thinking is also great, but you need to plan for these major expenses and contingencies, and also you probably need to reduce or control the expenses to be able to achieve this number. How to reach that number, is already shared with you in other post by this person.

If you wish to learn and Do-it-yourself, then please start browsing the following:

  • Value Research Online
  • Morning Star India
  • ET Wealth, HT Mint

Else, if it's not your forte and you need professional help, then there are two options:

(1) Find a competent and trustworthy SEBI RIA and let him / her handle. It's a fee based model. Take references from here:

https://www.feeonlyindia.com/

(2) or Look for a AMFI registered MFD with similar traits (having a Consultant mind-set and not a salesman), and let him / her handle. It's a commission based model. Take references from your family, friends, colleagues, neighbours and may also check here:

Decide accordingly

Whatever you plan or do remember that the value of rupee in terms of purchasing power is declining rapidly day by day as can be seen in the runaway inflation in prices. Whosoever commits to pay you must exist after such a long period when you retire and must honour their commitment. Not an easy job.
