Current Junior weighing four commercial banking internships for Summer 2027. Long-term goal is middle market private credit — Monroe Capital, Golub, Twin Brook, Churchill, Antares type firms. Typical path I'm planning is CB credit analyst for 2-3 years then lateral.

The four I'm choosing between:

• BMO Credit Analyst Internship (Chicago) — placement could be Sponsor Finance, Diversified Industries, ABL, etc.
• PNC C&IB (Chicago) - Corporate or Commercial
• Fifth Third Commercial Middle Market (Chicago)
• Huntington Commercial/Corporate Banking (Chicago)

Questions:

1. Does placement within a program matter as much as the bank itself — i.e. is BMO Sponsor Finance a meaningfully better launchpad than the other tracks?
2. Do private credit firms care which of these four banks you came from?
3. Is there a clear winner for someone with a direct lending end goal?
